In an effort to provide reliable power supply with zero emmision that will enhance energy security and lower risk of fossil, Cross River State Government has commissioned a 300 watt solar powered electricity system to provide alternative power to some Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The clean power supply which was provided through the SLOGOR project was followed by an 8- week back to back test running and system upgrade by some Engineers and service providers in ensuring that the power back up is fully installed with maintenance guarantee services.
Speaking during the Commissioning, the Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr. Inyang Asibong, said the clean energy initiative is to ensure constant power supply in supporting the Office of the Accountant General, Budget Department and the Governor's Office with some line Ministries.
Asibong while appreciating the World Bank, EU and other Development Partners in the state, said Cross River State Government under Professor Ben Ayade will always give priority to efficiency and effective use of clean energy as one of the few states in Nigeria with the UN REDD+ plus programme.
"The State government is on a data optimization and analysis drive for the State Integrated Financial Management Information System (SIFMIS) in 18 Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the state,so we will extend this to others who are yet to benefit", Asibong added.
The breakdown of the Power Backup System includes 34KVA solar system comprising 90 pieces of 300-watt solar panels and 45 units of 200-amps solar batteries which has the capacity to run between 48- 72hrs uninterrupted. There's also a 100KVA standby generator to be use for periodic charging and during maintenance or harsh weather conditions.
Dignitaries at the event included the State Accountant General, Mr Joseph Adie, the Perm. Sec. Ministry of ICT, Mr Thomas Aruku, The Perm. Sec, Budget Department, The Project Coordinator SLOGOR, Mr Jo Mbufe amongst others.
