Following the recent alleged murder of a herder in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Governor David Nweze Umahi has ordered for the arrest of the village head and other community leaders in the area.
Briefing journalists at Exco-Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, the state Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Cletus Ofoke described the murder as a gruesome one.
The state oficials through the magnanimity of Governor called on the Miyetti Allah Group to maintain calm while the state government looks into the matter as he promised to engage them in a security meeting for peaceful interactions, and also promised to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
He, however, commiserated with the bereaved for the huge loss.
Ofoke said: "The governor has further directed the Council that the village Head and all the Town Union Executive members of that particular area in Ohaozara where the alleged murder of a Herder occurred should be arrested immediately until they produce to the security agencies the killers of that Herder.
“Government is also appealing for calm as we are already on top of the situation; the perpetrators must definitely be brought to book and the State Committee on Herders-Farmers’ relationship has also been charged to be more proactive in ensuring that we don’t get this incidents furthermore.
“His Excellency in his wisdom has also approved that there will be an extended security council meeting, just like the one we had recently, that will involve the leadership of the Miyetti Allah in the Southeast and also in Ebonyi State, to brainstorm further on other ways of ensuring that we forestall this incessant attacks on the Herders and Farmers and also destruction of crops; and we sympathize with the bereaved family.
“The governor has severally announced to Nigerians that as far as you are living in Ebonyi State, we are one."
The state Executive Council members have condemned in totality as the Commissioner stated thus:
“The executive Council of the State led by His Excellency Engr David Nweze Umahi, strongly condemned this bastardly act and directed the Commissioner for Internal Security and all the security agencies to ensure that the culprit (s) are arrested and that they face justice.”
