Students of tertiary institutions in Ebonyi state have taken delivery of COVID-19 palliatives from the Ebonyi State government.
The event which took place on Tuesday at International Conference Centre, Abakaliki,
The institutions that benefited from the palliatives, include, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State University, Akanu Ibiam Federal polytechnic, Unwanna Afikpo, Federal College of Agriculture Ishiegu, College of Health Science, Ngbo,and College of Education, IKwo.
The Student Union Government Presidents of seven institutions led by Comrade Olisa Nwuruku Alfred, Director of Special Duties, National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), were present to receive the palliatives on behalf of their students.
The palliatives which were loaded in seven tippers were accompanied by heavy security operatives to ensure safe delivery to the various institutions for sharing to students.
Giving reasons for government delay in the distribution of the palliatives, the Permanent Secretary, Human Capital Development, Egwu Otta who distributed the palliatives, said, schools were not in session, hence, the delay, stressing that government was fully determined to ensure that the palliatives got to the right people.
In a remark, Comrade Olisa Nwuruku Alfred, Director of Special Duties, National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), commended Governor David Umahi, for approving the distribution of palliative to students who had earlier demanded for it. He assured that the palliative would get to every students in their Institutions of learning.
He said, "I thank the Governor, Engr. David Umahi, for approving for students to come and carry palliatives live at International conference center, Abakaliki.
"I am here with all the SUG presidents of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo(AE-FUNAI), SUG president of Ebonyi State University, SUG President of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic,Uwanna, SUG President of Federal college of Agriculture Ishiegu and the SUG President of College of Health Science, Ngbo."
