A native doctor, one Mr. Ikechukwu Nworie aged 30 years, has been remanded by the Magistrate Court sitting in Abakaliki on Wednesday for having allegedly had a canal knowledge with a seven year old minor, identified as Miss Ukamaka.
The suspected rapist were reported to have gone to the victim’s name sake's house, where she was raped on the process of buying some food items.
Getting there, the herbalist layed Miss Ukamaka on the ground for having noticed that no one was around and had canal knowledge of her.
The victim said: “The man put his fingers into my thing, again and again."
Investigation revealed that the Mr. Ikechukwu Nworie told the little girl not to disclose what transpired between them, and equally threatened that she would die if she ever tell anybody.
However, when the victim’s elder sister found out that blood was gushing out of the victim’s private part, she immediately informed her mother, who later confronted the herbalist after her daughter's confession.
The victim’s mother without delay reported the matter to the police, after the suspect repeatedly denied the act.
It was gathered that Nworie committed the crime on October 10, 2020, at Eka-Awoke community, in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.
NATIONAL PANEL learnt as well that the suspected rapist had been in the habit of raping minors in the state, which usually led to the victim’s death, after sometime. In 2015, sources said he equally raped a pupil, who later died of stranger illness.
The suspect was arraigned on one count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse at the Magistrate’s Court.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Sabastine Alumona, told the court that the offence was punishable under section 32 (2) of Ebonyi State Child Right and other Related Matters law 2010.
His Defense Counsel, F.M. Nwebo, applied to the court for the suspect to be granted bail, but the Prosecuting Counsel, Alumona, opposed the bail application on the ground that the victim’s sound health was not yet ascertained.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Nnenna Onuoha, stressed that the court lacked the powers to entertain the matter.
Onuoha ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while his case file be transferred to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for necessary legal action.
The matter was adjourned till November 6, 2020.
