HAPPY 60TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY TO NIGERIA AND HAPPY 24TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CREATION OF OUR DEAR STATE, EBONYI.
Today, as in every year, Nigeria as a nation is greeted by a significant reflection of her journey so far, from the shelter of the British colony. On her 60th Independence today, the story of our rebirth to this democratic span is worth celebrating, not to its degree of growth or relapse, but for the foundation that brought and continues to present hope for a better tomorrow.
For us, in our darling State, Ebonyi, we are but 24 years of age today. But just like Nazareth - the insignificant lower city of Galilee in Israel during the time of Jesus and now the centre of Christian pilgrimage; so is the Salt of the Nation today in Nigeria. Despite the seeming gestures of negligibility from around us, we have continued to grow steadily in every respect since creation on October 1st 1996.
The sure hands of His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, Governor of Ebonyi State, has moulded us to become the Nazareth of Nigeria. As an indisputable professor of infrastructure, the formation of facilities in the State are as solid as they are beautiful. Agriculture - a known signature of Ebonyians has been once more, harnessed mightily by both the haves and have nots; thanks to His Excellency’s friendly agricultural schemes. Human capital development is now a complete industry in Ebonyi State. Peace, security of lives and properties are Governor Umahi’s benchmark for good governance. In health and particularly in this year of COVID-19, God has made His Excellency, an instrument of healing, all to His greater glory.
The list is indeed, endless.
More enticing is the Governor’s absolute respect for the Rule of Law which has seen him develop and sustain a sweet working synergy between the various arms of Government in the State, for which we the legislators are immensely proud of. These numerous achievements of Governor Umahi is the reason both local and international investors are flooding our darling State. Indeed, the reverberations emanating from the laudable achievements of our leader is audible to the deaf.
All these will be futile if we do not lay proper commendation to our dearest Mother, Her Excellency, the Wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs. Rachel Ogonna Umahi; who has not only been giving our Governor the needed warmth for optimum performance, but also soothing the sorrows of widows and the less privileged ones in our State, through her distinctive Family Succour and Uplifitment Foundation.
Your Excellency, Sir, as we congratulate you and all Ebonyians on this stellar celebration, our prayers for you are ones of good health of mind and body, Divine discernment in all your dealings and God’s protection for you and your family. I urge all Ebonyians to continue supporting His Excellency’s developmental strides to take us to the zenith.
And to His Excellency, President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR; the leadership of the National Assembly led by Sen. Ahmed Lawan - President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly; and our dear brother, the Speaker of the House of Representatives - Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, we congratulate you all and pray for God’s abundant blessings on you as you continue to move the country forward.
Let me once more, from the Legislative staples of Ebonyi State, congratulate us all, on behalf of my lovely family, Honourable Members, floor functionaries and the entire staff of Ebonyi State House of Assembly; as we mark our 60th Independence as a nation and the 24th anniversary of the creation of our beloved State, Ebonyi.
