Ebonyi State on Thursday turned rowdy following the ongoing protest against police brutalities in the country.
The protesters blocked all the major roads in Abakaliki, the state capital including the old government house, the residential quarters of the Deputy Governor, Barr. Eric Igwe with every business activity and movement frustrated.
The protesters led by a popular Nollywood Actress, Mrs. Angela Okorie refused to be addressed by any other government officials including the state internal security Commissioner, Stanley Emegha, but demanded for the presence of the state governor, Engr. David Umahi and his deputy.
The protesters through Mrs. Angela Okorie called for an urgent termination of SARS and SWAT in Nigeria.
The protesters equally called for a total reform of Police to stop any kind of brutalities on the citizenries especially the youths in the country.
"I am a youths too, and I have a son. We can’t allow the continued killings of the innocent youths on the streets. We are on a peaceful protest and we demand that the Police must be reformed. We have been hearing about reform and we are tired of this. We are angry. We are tired. Government should take action. We are advocating that the Police should be well paid”, she hinted while speaking on behalf of the protesters.
Some of the placards carried by the protesters read: “End SARS', 'End SWART', 'reform the police', 'end police brutality', 'pay the police well', among others.
Our reporters gathered that both the state governor and his deputy did not address the protesters, but an alleged arrangement for another protest was revealed gathering momentum should their requests are allowed to hit on the rock by the relevant authourities.
