Police Extortion: Ebonyi Council Boss foils protest, seeks CP's attention

The Executive Chairman, Ebonyi Council Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Mrs. Chinyere Nwogbaga, has put into halt the protest planned by Izzi Nnodo Concerned Youths to stage against the alleged Police extortions from those plying roads in their vincinities.


The youths had decried the alleged extortions of their people plying their community roads by Police  officers posted to the checking points in their areas.

It was gathered that they threatened to embark on peaceful protest against the activities of Police officers especially those who normally stationed along Hilltop-Nwofe road, Igweja-Randa Road, Ishieke-Odomoke road and many others.

NATIONAL PANEL learnt that the Chairman got a signal about the planned protest from one of her aides, she therefore, swung into action and got it stopped.

The Ebonyi Council Chairman who was reported to have immediately put phone calls across the stakeholders and organizers of the protest, also commended them for drawing the attention of the government about the activities of the Police officers at the checking points in their areas. 

She promised to quickly meet with the state Commissioner of Police to ensure such complain would not repeat self.

Mrs. Nwogbaga decried all corrupt activities reported by the group, and however, charged the security agents within the area to always live up to the people's expectation, explaining that, Nigerian Police force shuns any form of illegal practices.

She assured the residents of the council, and those plying the roads, mainly for transportation of their farm produce to remain steadfast as in her words, she would take up the matter to ensure there is no restriction any longer.


She also advised the youths to remain peaceful by putting into stop any form of protests, asking them to submit to her office a letter detailing the activities of the Police officers, to form one of the documents she will present to the state CP.

Meanwhile, the youths have stopped the planned protest, waiting what would be the response of the state Police Boss regards their report through the Council Chairman.
