The Rice Processing and Training Centre, the Goronyo Rice Innovation Platform in the Middle Rima Valley Irrigation Scheme, Goronyo, one of the axis of the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority was officially commissioned on Saturday 3rd October, 2020 by the National Coordinator of TRIMING Project, Engr. Peter Yakubu Manjuk.
TRIMING Project is in charge of transforming irrigation management in Nigeria with other value chains for development.
However, the National Coordinator ably represented by Mallam Ale Garba has commended the cooperation of the management and staff of Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority and the leadership of farmers within the Middle Rima Valley Irrigation Scheme (MRVIS), Goronyo which according to him facilitated the commissioning of the rice innovation centre.
The National Coordinator also said that the rice processing and training centre is one of the outcomes
for the project innovation research and development
for value chain action research in the MRVIS, Goronyo, Sokoto State.
Also Speaking, the Executive Director Agric Services in Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, Prof. Ahmed Ala, expressed joy for the commissioning of the rice innovative mill centre in the scheme and described it as a laudable feat that deserves a big celebration.
He advised the farmers within the axis to make good
use of the facilities, pointing that they would benefit a
lot including people from other states by the way of patronage on buying and selling their products.
Prof Ala encouraged the farmers to be more proactive
in farming, and expressed optimism that other projects which will benefit the scheme are still coming as a part
of motivation and development.
He maintained that the project would go far in enhancing the community and therefore, enjoined all hands to be on deck to expand the dream.
In the same vein, the Project Manager, Middle Rima Valley Irrigation Scheme, Ahlaji Muhammed Lawal Mafarawa thanked the TRIMING Project officials for their concerted effort that led to the achievement of the rice innovation platform in the area. He assured his office commitment to ensure the progress of the platform is not tampered with in the scheme.
On his part, the Chairman, Water Users Association Goroyo, Ahlaji Abrahim Abubakar expressed gratitude for the successful commissioning of the innovation platform. He also commended the officials of the TRIMING Project for the impactful contributions for the growth and development of the community especially the farmers and promised
to be making good use of it.
Meanwhile, the commissioning of the project cut across the displaying of varieties of paddy like Faros 44, 59 and locals including milled samples with the end use of bran for animal feed additive, using burnt rice bran mixed up with cement to produce blocks, among others.
