The critical stakeholders of Ezza Ezekuna Ekumenyi in Ebonyi State have issued a strong communique to endorse Governor David Umahi's defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and at the same time sent a controversial message to Obinna Ogba, the Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers for condemning the decision of the governor.
The stakeholders made the Communique after their emergency meeting held at their ancestral home, Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Monday 23rd November, 2020.
The Communique issued by the people including those occupying various political classes and traditional rulers, explained that Ezza Ezekuna also known as Ezza Nation, the eldest and most populous clan in Ebonyi State has keenly observed with great concern the political happenstances in the state and make bold to state as follows:
"That Ezza Nation congratulates His Excellency, Engr Dr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, Governor of Ebonyi State for a successful defection into the All Progressive Congress, APC by extension, the Progressive family which we believe without doubts will give much prospects to Ebonyi State and by extension, the entire South East zone especially in the face of our genuine quest for President of Nigeria of Igbo extraction in 2023.
"That we support the Governor's wise political move which is aimed at integrating Ndigbo to the epicenter of Nigeria politics and development and Ezza Nation assures him of our unflinching support and solidarity to further expand the frontiers of governance.
"Ezza Nation wishes to thank our dear Governor for not only appointing our sons and daughters into envious positions but thank him for his unequalled development in entire Ezza nation and Ebonyi State as whole especially siting the world class airport in Ezza land, thereby bringing the world to Ezza Ezekuna soil.
"That we therefore commend His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari and indeed the National Caretaker Committee of APC for their support to our dear Governor and his subsequent acceptance into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. We want to assure you that Ezza Nation stands solidly with our Governor.
"Ezza Nation wants to make it categorically clear that we are contesting the next Governorship position of Ebonyi State and Senatorial seat of Ebonyi Central in 2023 and therefore call on our brothers and sisters across the State to extend their supports to us as we have always done in the past since return of Nigerian democracy in 1999.
"We feel strongly concerned of ever allowing or voting for Senator Obinna Ogba for second term as against the choice of our dear son and brother in the last senatorial election in 2019. However, we have resolved that such mistake will not happen again especially knowing that Senator Obinna Ogba has never done anything for Ezza nation, on whose back and mandate he rose to the red chambers twice despite the fact that he hails from the minutest minority with less than one political ward.
"We totally acknowledge the fact that Ezza Nation respected the wish and plea of our dear Governor to allow Ogba go to the senate in an Ezza dominated Ebonyi Central zone but wish to state that since he has chosen to bite the finger that fed him and with our resolve to take back our zone, we have deserted Senator Obinna Ogba and render him a political orphan in Ebonyi State.
"Ezza Nation wishes to state clearly that since Senator Obinna Ogba has shown that he has no respect for Ezza Nation, he will neither return to the senate nor contest the office of the Governor as we have declared interests in those offices come 2023."
The communique has gone viral on the media attracting supporters and those commenting against the stakeholders' stance on the political movements in the state at this moment.
