The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has continued to degenerate different tunes tearing the party into factions.
The most visible among the factions now are 'the Ebonyi-Home-Based-Group' and 'the Ebonyi-Abuja-Group' after the official defection of Governor David Umahi to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre.
The National Mouthpiece of the party, Kola Ologbodiyanon has announced the dissolution of the Ebonyi State Working Committee under the Chairmanship of Barr. Onyekachi Peter Nwebonyi by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on the ground of his alleged defection to APC.
NWC with immediate effect constituted and inaugurated the Caretaker Committee at Abuja under the the Chairmanship of Chief Fred Udogu to oversee the party affairs in the state.
Nwebonyi has been challenging the decision taken by the PDP national leadership and termed the dissolution of the Executives under his watch as unconstitutional and unfounded one.
He said the PDP duely elected him, and pointed out that, the National Working Committee of the PDP lacked the constitutional powers to dissolve his leadership as his tenure has not elapsed, following his election and inauguration in few months ago.
He maintained that the state PDP's leadership under his watch has suspended Senator Samuel Ominyi Egwu, the former Governor of Ebonyi State and the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District alongside other strong members of the party for having acted against the rules guiding the PDP.
Others suspended by Nwebonyi's led Executives included Senator Obinna Ogba, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, his Ebonyi South counterpart, Senator Michael Nnachi Ama, and all the five members in the House of Representatives who were elected under PDP platform in 2019.

Recall that the Legal Adviser to the newly constituted State Caretaker Committee, Barr. Mudi Ehrenede in a statement signed by him said that the Nwebonyi's led Executives had since been dissolved and they should be seen as agents of APC, working to destroy the PDP in Ebonyi State.
But Barr. Nwebonyi in his fresh reaction sent to our newsdesk on Wednesday 25th November, 2020, described some of the members of the National Assembly, especially those from Ebonyi North and Central as the dumbest in the National Assembly.
He said that the National Assembly members are afraid whether their tickets would be returned in 2023 or not.
The NASS members' intentions, in his words, might not be feasible, and had made them allegedly trying to destroy the PDP in Ebonyi State,
"It is evident that the National Assembly members from Ebonyi State who are of the PDP are the dumbest in the National Assembly, especially those of them from Ebonyi North and Central.
"Imagine a Senator who is serving a second term but could not boast of any tangible achievement in the National Assembly or even in his constituency.
"Senator Sam Egwu, for instance, whose second term ticket was made possible by disenfranchising others is the one carrying himself as the leader of the party in the state,
"Let it be known to the general public and particularly the members of the PDP that Sen. Sam Egwu and his cohorts are on a mission to destroy the PDP in Ebonyi State.
"They have been carrying the insinuation around that I am the erstwhile Chairman of the PDP while the issue of their orchestrated dissolution of the ward, LGA, and state executives of the party in the state is still pending in court.
"They are looking for an avenue to cause crisis in the PDP so they can easily defect to another party. In fact, they are even the ones working for the APC,
"Their ineptitude and lack of concern for their constituents are the factors working against them not the PDP executives. They have become liabilities to the party or at best non valuable assets," Nwebonyi said.
He therefore, urged the members of the public especially the PDP faithfuls in Ebonyi State to disregard the newly appointed caretaker committee of the party, as according to him, he is still in charge.
