JUST IN: Kwara to revoke pension packages of ex-governors, deputies

By  Peter Jiya

Kwara State Government led by Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, on Friday November 13 , 2020 disclosed that it is revoking pension packages for former governors and deputy governors in the State.

Recall that the governor in his campaign promises that led to his victory at the poll in 2015  had said among others that if elected he would scrape the pensions of both past governors and deputy governors to give way for meaningful developments in the state.

The governor who has fulfilled major parts of his campaign blue prints is set to achieve another milestone as he declared early today that Kwara state needs resources, therefore, revoking the formal governors and deputies of their state's pensions becomes inevitable.

According to him: "In line with our campaign mantra and the yearnings of our people, next week I will be sending a bill to the State House of Assembly to revoke the law awarding pension packages to former governors and former deputy governors in Kwara State.
"Our state needs all the resources it can get to improve our human capital development. I believe our limited resources are better spent on tackling the question of poverty and youth unemployment."
