Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) said sooner than later, it would summon the former President of Nigeria Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim to render his stewardship to Ebonyi people, South East and other Nigerian citizens when occupying political positions.
OYC also expressed readines to invite the first Executive Governor of Ebonyi State and the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Sam Ominyi Egwu and other Ebonyi people occupying political positions to present their scorecards following the attacks and counter attacks mounting the state politics since Governor David Umahi left PDP to APC.
The group said, Governor Umahi's tenure has been peaceful and recorded many developmental strides in Ebonyi that should not have paved in for any distraction from prominent stakeholders like Anyim, Egwu and their backers in the state.
In a press release signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President General of OYC, Comrade Obinna Achionye, Deputy President General and Mazi okwu Nnabuike, Secretary General, the Igbo Youths urged the political leaders not to use the defection of their state Governor, Umahi from the PDP to the APC as a yardstick to instigate political tension in their currently peaceful state.
The release hints: "Governor Umahi's tenure has been peaceful and had recorded a lot of developmental strides in Ebonyi state and he should not be distracted, his political sojourn to APC is in the best interests of Southeast Region with the support and backing of Igbos, on that note, OYC issues a stern warning and 7 days Ultimatum to the Ebonyi Political leaders to ceasefire and promote peaceful coexistence amongst all political parties.
"Has Senator Pius Anyim forgotten his alleged involvement in the scandal of Abuja Centenary City, Which OYC had been studying recently? Has Dr. Sam Egwu soon forgot the scandal that led to his exit during his tenure as Minister of Education? Where millions were squandered at his birthday party in 2009 when ASUU was on strike?
"We have all comprehensive lists from the budget office of National Assembly from 1999 to 2019, and the records of monies released for constituency projects for the three senatorial zones in Ebonyi state, we are still investigating on projects executed so far by the National Assembly members from Ebonyi state, but unfortunately most projects are missing at the locations and sites, they will be called to render their stewardship sooner than later."
OYC has given seven days ultimatum to Anyim and Egwu and other Ebonyi political leaders to ceasefire and promote peaceful coexistence amongst all political parties.
The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio cultural organization also advised Anyim and Egwu to eschew themselves from any act capable of truncating the peaceful atmosphere of Ebonyi, stressing that they have been noticing resentment and bickering coming from both leaders against their state Governor, Dave Umahi.
"It is unfortunate that the resentment and bickering which has led to misguided utterances and behaviours by political leaders like Anyim and Egwu, have heightened political tensions in Ebonyi since Umahi’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People's Democratic Party (PDP)," the release added.
It could be recalled that the former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim had on Monday petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu and the DSS over an alleged plot by Governor Umahi to kill him for not defecting from the PDP to the APC with him.
While Umahi, had in a broadcast on November 27, 2020, alleged that he received information that Anyim, Egwu alongside other political leaders the state, were planning to instigate a crisis in Ebonyi with the aid of cultists and a Pro-Biafra group, IPOB.
Governor Umahi equally said that he cannot confirm if the information is true or not, but needed to share the information with the security agencies to avoid the loss of lives as every governor in Ebonyi has been fought by the same set of leaders he listed.
OYC said the group still recalls the political crisis that led to untimely deaths of hundreds of young people in Ebonyi state, based on the feud between Dr. Sam Egwu and Senator Pius Anyim during the tenure of Dr. Egwu as Governor and Sen Anyim as Senate President.
The group stressed that the ugly experience of that era had remained indelible in the minds of people and there are attempts to repeat that violence again in 2020 through the ongoing recruitment of cultists and radical Biafra agitators by Ebonyi Leaders against Governor Umahi.
OYC said that it is obnoxious for a group of leaders to be plotting such moves with evil intent to set their own state ablaze and cautioned that such unreasonable moves must stop.
The Ohanaeze Youths advised all young persons in the state that they must resist violence, avoid people heightening tensions and urged them to ask such political gladiators brewing crisis to bring out their own children to lead the way in such crisis.
OYC urged all Ebonyi political leaders instigating crisis in the state against Umahi and saying wrong words to remember that they too are not saints as history is there to prove that.
OYC said that Senator Pius Anyim's claims that Governor Umahi wants to kill him are false statements and a huge joke aimed at creating disaffection and divide Eboyians along political parties lines.
The Ohanaeze Youths said they wonder why Anyim is always on the Media for negative reasons and fond of claiming that anybody he had disagreement with was planning to kill him.
"Last time he alleged that Prince Arthur Eze was after him and now it's Governor Umahi, who knows next. We wish to admonish the Former President of the Senate, that it's time to allow peace triumphs in Ebonyi state.
"He should never repeat the sad episodes of the feud that existed between him and Dr. Sam Egwu, because OYC will resist all attempts to make Ebonyi state ungovernable.
"At the expiration of 7-days Ultimatum to him and others, if they refused to listen to the voice of reason, there would be stiff sanctions on any erring leader caught," OYC said.
