The newly elected board member of the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Dr Edward Onyeneho has pledged to use his new position to work towards uplifting the institution.
Onyeneho disclosed this in an interview over the new appointment as an elected member of the board of the Governing Council of the institution and other higher institutions in Nigeria.
The erudite scholar said that by God’s special grace, he and other members of the board will work assiduously for the institution’s interest and pledged to serve with utmost integrity.
“I will strive to touch lives and put smiles on the faces of people within the institution and beyond to the glory of God and service to humanity.
He further described the board of the governing council as the ultimate and highest policy making body of polytechnics and universities in Nigeria and therefore requires men of goodwill to steer its course.
“These should be men of integrity who can stand to declare that the educational system must move on, being aware of the herculean task ahead of them.
“I lack words to express my profound gratitude to God and all those who made the election into the board possible as it came beyond his expectation.
Onyeneho acknowledged surprise that he is still enjoying the goodwill of members of the academia, noting that he did not campaign long for the position and it became successful.
“I thank the institution’s academic board for reposing confidence in me especially the institution’s Rector, Venerable Dr Ogbonnia Ibe-Enwo.
He disclosed that the board’s Chairman will be appointed by the President of the country who will also perform the board’s inauguration ceremony.
