2.0 In absolute regard for clarity of information, purposeful service and willingness to put records straight, the Honourable Speaker wishes to make it clear, that it is the prerogative of the Honourable Members to elect or remove her floor functionaries.
3.0 The party may suggest or recommend a certain candidate, but by the virtue of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, every House of Assembly is empowered to regulate its proceedings by the Rules of the House. So, ONLY elected Honourable Members have the right to elect or remove a functionary.
4.0 In addendum, while determining a question on the floor of the House, a simple majority takes the day. This was exactly what played out in the case of the erstwhile Chief Whip of the House. A letter signed by 15 Honourable Members of the House was addressed to the Honourable Speaker, requesting the removal of the Chief Whip. Mr. Speaker put it to question and the simple majority led the day.
5.0 It is, therefore, a crass ignorance of the workings of the legislature for Barr. Silas Joseph Onu, to have opined that the removal of Hon. Engr. Humphrey Nwuruku was illegal. To say the least, it is as legal as the word ‘legal’.
6.0 Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is and will remain an embodiment of respect for Rule of Law and Due Process. In fact, he oozes everything legal and all that he touches, follow due process.
7.0 While Mr Speaker acknowledges the struggling efforts of Barr. Onu to live up to his certificate, it is pertinent that matters of such magnitudes, like the one under discussion, be given considerations devoid of mental impropriety but blessed with progressive thinking.
8.0 The Honourable Speaker is by this notification, calling on the general public to disregard all forms of deceitful and illusionary information put out by Barr. Silas Joseph Onu, as it only brews unnecessary political tension and squabbles in the State.
9.0 Ebonyi State House of Assembly, under the steady and humble leadership of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru - South-East National Vice Chairman, Speakers Conference of Nigeria, will continue to lead the way in effective and efficient legislation, dotted in absolute peace.
