Dr Peter Ezeigbo, the new Coordinator Ebonyi NANTMP.
The members of National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners, NANTMP Ebonyi State Chapter has appointed Dr Peter Ezeigbo as their Coordinator.
Peter Ezeigbo is a native of Ukwagba Ngbo in Ohaukwu Council Area of Ebonyi State, a trado-medicine practitioner and a full fledge member of NANTMP.
He expressed joy for the privilege given to him by his colleagues to be their Coordinator, pending when their election which would produce their authentic executives in the state be conducted as enshrined in their constitution.
He pledged loyalty to all the members of NANTMP especially his predecessor, Rev Dr Samuel Ezenyi, the immediate past coordinator of the association, and other stakeholders both in the state and at the national level.
The new coordinator also promised to aleign his members with the policies and programmes of the state government under the watch of Governor David Nweze Umahi, who he described as a leader par excellence, in terms of infrastructural and human development.
Ezeigbo warned individuals or groups using herbals, roots and applying other traditional means in healing people to join the association as he stated that his administration as the state coordinator would not tolerate such operation without identifying with the body, advising all members to never engage in witch-crafting and any destructive ways as a part of practicing traditional medicine system.
According to him, NANTMP in Ebonyi State under his watch would spell dooms on witch-crafting doctors especially those using herbs, roots and other natural endowments to prepare charms killing people, caging destines and futures of individuals.
Also Speaking, the immediate past Coordinator of NANTMP in Ebonyi State, Rev Dr Samuel Ezenyi said, he resigned his position because it is not allowed in their constitution for a coordinator occupying his seat to contest the championship position of the association during election.
He said his observation for the few months when served as the coordinator of the association, made him to decide to run the championship position during the election as this will enable him to fix some abnormalities trailing the traditional medical system in the state.
Ezenyi hinted that, a traditional medicine practitioners are not only the native doctors or individuals having a fetish believe and practice but a conglomeration of people using herbs, roots and other natural endowments created by God Almighty to heal the sicks in the society.
He stated that his interest to reform traditional medicine system under the auspice of NANTMP, made him to pay courtesy visit Governor David Umahi with his members during the 2020 yuletide to intimate with the governor on his plan to bring trado-medicine school in the state.
He however, commended Umahi's movement to APC, saying that the step would earn the state and South East geopolitical zone in general, a greater dividends of democracy in the present political dispensation of the country, making appeal to the governor to re-establish the traditional medicine board for the benefit of NANTMP members in the state.
On her own part, the Woman Leader and Treasurer of the association in the state, Ambassador Mrs Stella Amadi, said the appointment of Dr Peter Ezeigbo as the coordinator of Ebonyi NANTMP was necessary because of their incoming election in Ebonyi.
She said that this made the former Coordinator, Rev Dr Samuel Ezenyi to resign and hand over to the newly appointed one, Dr Peter Ezeigbo, since he (Ezenyi) has interest to run the championship position of the association in state as approved by the national officials in line with their constitution.
Amb. Mrs Amadi commended Rev Dr Ezenyi's wealth of knowledge and diplomacy while serving as Ebonyi State Coordinator of NANTMP especially on his transparency and accountability.
She however, urged those who have interest to run any position during the election to keep to the rules and regulations guiding NANTMP as a self-centered individuals would not be supported to hold any post.
The Woman Leader also urged the new Coordinator to make consultations to avoid going contrarily to the NANTMP code of conduct, adding that the association had paid courtesy visit to the state governor for intimacy and to be recognized as the national body having chapters in the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
She thus, stated that the association's subsequent meeting would determine whether the election holds in February this year, calling the state government for its continuous support to have herbal school like other states in the country.
