The Zone-12 of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi has arraigned 157 traffic offenders before mobile courts in the state, Toro, Azare and Bara.
This was contained in a statement by the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Rotimi T. Adeleye, who said, about 145 were convicted of various traffic offences while 12 were discharged.
Adeleye said the Operation Zero Special Patrol included enforcements of traffic infractions through Mobile Court Sittings, Traffic Control at gridlock-prone junctions, Traffic Counts and mounting of Help Areas (Ambulance Points) to provide prompt rescue services to crash victims.
Some fleet operators which transverse the zone have been observed for recklessness.
“The transport companies (names withheld) have been pencilled for official sanctioning in liaison with the FRSC Transport Safety Office at the National Headquarters in accordance with the Fleet Operators Guidelines. The offices of the two transport companies will be informed accordingly.
“Non-installation of the Speed Limiting Device, Overloading and Over Speeding were the most prevalent offences committed by the motorist. The FRSC is calling on motorists to obey traffic regulations for their safety and those of other road users.
“All commuters are to ensure they observe the COVID-19 protocols of physical distancing, regular washing of hands and use of face masks while travelling on the roads," the statement read.
The FRSC commended the level of road safety consciousness exhibited by commuters in the zone during the yuletide and expressed satisfaction with the level of Road Safety compliance witnessed so far in the on-going Operation Zero Tolerance for Traffic Crashes 2020 (OZ-2020) while monitoring the Mobile Court sittings going on within the zone.
FRSC equally advised traders moved away from the highways enhancing the safety of the roads within the zone during the yuletide even as it admonished that the trend should continue in order to sustain the safety of the roads around the markets while the Commands will continue to intensify on road safety public education to avoid road crashes. -Leadership.
