Ebonyi Commissioner for Environment, Comrade Jonah Egba has advised the businessmen in the state to support the government of Governor David Nweze Umahi by paying the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, to facilitate appropriate account to attract more developmental projects in the state.
Comrade Egba gave the advice in a maiden meeting with the Wood Log Dealers Association in the state at his office, Centenary City Abakaliki.
Egba stated that the essence of the meeting was to interface and strategize on how to enhance their businesses and as well boost the revenue base of the state through the ministry.
According to him, the ministry has observed with dismay that unauthorized Wood Dealers within Ebonyi state usually remove the forest produce without recourse to the supervising ministry in charge of forestry matter.
As a result of this, the commissioner directed that before any log of wood gets out of the state, such a person must pay the required Internally Generated Revenue through the board of internal Revenue under the ministry's supervision.
He however, maintained that henceforth, anybody found trying to infringe on the forest produce will face the full wait of the Law.
The Chairman of the state Wood Log Dealers Association, Mr Philip Nweke said they are happy to meet with the government of Ebonyi state through the ministry to deliberate on some of the challenges that hinder the progress of their business and profer lasting solution.
Mr Nweke assured the Commissioner that the Association would adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the state government especially as it concerns me IGR.
He solicited for the ministry's co -operation and enabling environment for them to carry out their business without fear.
The Head of Forestry Department of the Ministry , Engr Fidelis Mbam earlier welcome the Wood Dealers and urged them to abide by the laws of the state government by paying the stipulated IGR.
He noted that the department founds no Joy in confiscating anybody's good and promised to work in synergy to ensure that the state government provide an enabling environment for the smooth running of their business.
