The Media Office of the Former Senate President, Sen. Pius Anyim has stated that the former number three citizen of the country remains a statesman and is actively engaged in reconciliation moves within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Judy Oko-Amanta, Director of the office made the declaration in statement debunking the report from an online medium that the Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, boycotted the recently held PDP south east stakeholders meeting in Enugu.
Oko-Amanta said that Anyim, one of leaders and backbones of the PDP in the country, was present at the meeting and participated fully in all its sessions which were peaceful and fruitful.
Oko-Amanta said that to show that the former senate president nurtures the PDP from his heart, he alongside another Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki among others are currently moving across the geo-political zones of the country, meeting and reconciling aggrieved members.
“This is ahead of the 2023 general elections which is key to the party at this time.
“The election is more important to the Oshimiri (Big River) 1 of Ndigbo at this time more than who leads the party in the region.
The media office director said there was no rift between the former SGF and the PDP in the south east as he has never shown interest in becoming the party’s leader in the zone.
“He has other crucial engagements especially from the party’s national secretariat which keeps him busy than the mere issue of becoming the leader of the party in the zone.
“He is revered in the party, plays an astute advisory role and is the father of the party.
He said that the former senate president cannot pick offence over such issues and with a party he nurtured as the report of his boycotting the meeting, is a huge falsehood.
“The Enugu state governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi hosts all the meeting of PDP in the zone and therefore, there was no contest whatsoever about the leadership.
“The PDP only formalized Ugwuanyi’s position as the leader of the party, to continue effective direction of its activities in the zone.
The Head of the media office noted that the said meeting at Enugu was held to strategise on the forthcoming Anambra elections and discuss issues concerning the party in the state.
“There is no iota of truth in the publication as its purveyors are faceless and attack dogs of the government which appointed them.
