The stakeholders of Effium Community in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State have signed an undertaking to be held responsible if any further killing or distruction of property in the community erupts in the warring zone.
This was contained in a press release by Dr Monday Uzor, the Chief Press Secretary to Ebonyi Deputy Governor, Chief Eric Kelechi Igwe.
The stakeholders signed the undertaking after their meeting with the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Kelechi Igwe at Executive Council Chamber , Old Government, House, Abakaliki.
Those who signed the undertaking agreed that "from today, the 10th day of March 2021 we the undersigned are to be held responsible and liable for prosecution for any further killing of person(s) or distruction of property in the community comprising , Effium and Ezza clans ”
The stakeholders also undertook to work and cooperate with security agencies deployed to the area to maintain peace to forestall further loss of lives and damage to property as well as collectively work to bring lasting peace to the community.
They signed the undertaking in the presence of the Deputy Governor, Chief Kelechi Igwe, Commissioner of Police, State Director of the State Security Service and representatives of the the Nkwagu military cantonment, commander, Anglican Bishop of Abakaliki, Rt. Rev Monday Nkwagu and the State Vice Chairman of Christians Association of Nigeria, Rev Scamb Nwokolo as well as Commissioner for Internal security, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha.
