Post ENDSARS Summit: NUJ President urges other state governors to emulate Umahi

The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo has urged other state governors in the country to emulate their Ebonyi counterpart, Engr. David Nweze Umahi on conduct of post ENDSARS Summit and empowerment of youth wings.

Isiguzo made this appeal on Monday at the NUJ National Secretariat, Abuja when visited by the Ebonyi Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr Orji Uchenna Orji.

The NUJ President who was speaking on the heels of the government of Governor Umahi's quantum transformations in Ebonyi State, hinted that, "no one would have believed that Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi is part of Nigeria compared to what it used to be."

Comrade Isiguzo in a statement issued by Tita Onyebuchi Nze - the Head of Programmes, NUJ National Secretariat, Abuja, following Barr orji's unsecheduled visit to his office, applauded Ebonyi government for its recent youth empowerment programme which gulped about 3 billion Naria.

He also appealed to other tiers of government in the country to emulate the idea of Governor Umahi in order to check youth restiveness and security situations in the country.

 Isiguzo thanked the Honourable Commissioner for finding time to visit the NUJ National Secretariat, saying it was very thoughtful of him.

 Earlier, Orji explained that his visit was to come and thank the NUJ President alongside Journalists in Ebonyi State for their good work and support to the administration of Governor Umahi.

The Information Commissioner stated that the role of the media in Ebonyi and Nigeria at large cannot be over emphasised, saying that the world may not have known the unprecedented transformations going on in his state since the 6-years now without the media.

He enumerated some of the achievements of Governor Umahi to include, the biggest shopping mall in Africa, the light tunnel named after President Buhari, Ebonyi Water Fountain arena which can accomadate more than 2,000 persons, Ebonyi International Market, the biggest in South East Nigeria, Concrete Express Roads, first of its kind, 25 Kilometre roads in each of the 13 Local govt areas, the biggest Rice Milling Plant in subSahara Africa, and the mother of them all, the beautiful Flyovers and the ongoing International Airport which is a signature project of Gov. Dave Umahi, which was graciously approved by President Buhari. The information Commissioner explained that the list is endless, thanking the leaderdhip of the NUJ for their timely intervention during a media issue in the State, saying that the NUJ President has done very well so far within his period in office.

Orji urged the Pressmen, the people of Ebonyi State and Nigeria in general to key into the transformation strategies of Ebonyi government, saying that Governor Umahi has all it takes to turn around the polity and fortunes of the country.
