As Ebonyians join other Christian faithfuls across the globe to observe this year's Easter celebration, people have been advised to imbibe the spirit of love and peaceful coexistence as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
This came as a wake up call towards addressing the security challenges rocking the State and Nigeria at large.
In their Easter messages, some of the highly placed personalities including, the traditional rulers, the clergy, political office holders community leaders and concerned Ebonyians individually and collectively condemned the ongoing crises in some communities of Ebonyi State coupled with the senseless killings of innocent citizens by the Fulani herdsmen in Ishielu Local Governance Area of the state.
In an interview with some traditional rulers including the traditional ruler of Ndiebor Ishieke community, His Royal Highness Eze Patrick Alo, the traditional ruler Amegu community, HRH Eze Fidelis Nwonumara and that of Izzi Unuphu community, HRH Eze Boniface Nwangbu, all expressed worry over the mindless killings of people by those who do not mean well for the society which they said has heightened fear and tension among the residents of Ebonyi State.
The traditional rulers who commended Governor Umahi's led government peace initiative also encouraged the governor never to be discouraged on his efforts in restoring peace in all parts of the state especially the war afflicted zones.
Similarly, the Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone, Senator Obinna Ogba, the former Minister of Power, Chief Goddy Ogbaga (Ezeudo) and the former Caretaker Chairman Abakaliki L.G.A cum SA to the governor on Internal security, Utility and Airport Development, Comrade Ben Nwovu, all described the security situation of the state as very unfortunate and called on all and sundry to use this period of Easter celebration to seek God's intervention in the state.
They condemned the recent killings by the suspected Fulani herdsmen in Egedegede community and advised Ebonyi people and the people of South East in general to be security conscious instead of relying solely on the government for the security of their various communities and villages.
In their goodwill messages, some of the highly respected personalities of Hausa community in Ezzangbo including the leader, Alhaji Sani Spina, the head, Abdulahi Oladipo and their youth leader Sanusi Radu, who used the opportunity to felicitate with the Christians in Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large in respect of the Easter celebration, observed that peace is the sine qua non in achieving sustainable development.
They blamed the high level of insecurity in the country on lack of love and mutual understanding and referred to the recent attacks by the Fulani herdsmen as barbaric and man's inhumanity to man, stressing that the assailants should be investigated and brought perpetrators to book while commending the State Governor, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi for providing them with enabling environment to live and do their normal businesses without any hitch.
