Burning of INEC Offices: Umahi issues queries to Ebonyi, Ezza North LG Chairs, others

Governor David Nweze Umahi on Wednesday directed the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Chief Kenneth Igwe Ugbala to issue queries to the Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Chinyere Nwaogbaga, and her Ezza North Counterpart, Nora Aloh, over the burning down offices of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the two council areas of the state.

The governor also asked the SSG to immediately issue the queries to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Barr. Samuel Okoronkwo, and the Senior Special Assistant on State and Local Government Affairs, Enekwachi Akpa.


Addressing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting at the Old Exco-Chamber, Government House, Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr Orji Uche Orji, said the state government frowned at the unfortunate attacks and urged the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

Orji said the Executive Council also frowned at the inability of those to be issued the queries to nip the attack on the bud, and should answer why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for failing in their duties.

According to him, every government functionary had been warned to rise against security challenges in their locality and show diligence, and that failing to do so will attract disciplinary action.

He also stated that Governor Umahi effected a minor cabinet reshuffle during the Executive Council meeting.

He said that the principal secretary to the Governor, Clement Nweke, is to serve as the acting Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development pending when the State House of Assembly confirms his appointment while the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mrs. Queen Agwu, had been deployed to serve as the Principal Secretary to the Governor.

"Office of the Chief of Staff is vacant. The Permanent Secretary in the office of the Chief of Staff is to receive  handover note from the former Chief of Staff," he added.


Speaking on the medical test for the public officeholders and individuals, Orji said that the "Exco approved the release of funds  for random testing of 4000 government officials and other individuals especially on Hepatitis  and 2000 women for Cervical Cancer."

He said, an 8-man committee under the Chairmanship of the Commissioner for Inter Governmental Affairs, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze, was set up for this purpose.

Orji, disclosed the signing of Executive Order 001 of 2021 for the acquisition of the disputed land measuring 37 hectares between Enyigba and Enyibichiri;  and signing of Executive Order 002 of 2021- an Order guiding the Selection of Town Union Leaders/ Traditional Rulers by the state Exco-members during the meeting.

NATIONAL PANEL reports that the inauguration of the state's a 20-man delegate led by Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, to the public hearing on the amendment of the 1999 constitution.

Ikechukwu Nwankwo   -  Member/Secretary, Prince Elemnaya Ebilah -Member, Mr. Emmanuel Nworie Aleke -Member, Elder Moses I. Anyasi - Member, and Hon. Donatus Aja - Member.
