IKWO LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL TO STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP WITH ITS ABI LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNTERPART TO END ADADAMA/AMAGU CRISIS.
This and more were contained in a-eleven-point communique issued at the end of the 1st inter-Local Government Joint Security meeting of Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State and Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State held on 19th May, 2021 at Onuebonyi Echara, the headquarters of Ikwo Local Government Area..
At the end of the inter-Local Government Security meeting convened by the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Council, Elder Stephen Orogwu and his Abi Local Government Council counterpart Hon. Forathor Robinson, the following decisions were reached:
1. That the meeting condemns in strong terms the invasion of farmlands by people of Adadama and Amagu communities with dangerous weapons.
2. That the leadership of Amagau and Adadama communities should prevail on their people not to engage in acts that would lead to clashes between the two communities.
3.That the meeting is calling on the people of Adadama and Amagu Communities to understand themselves and come up with modalities on how to farm on the land peacefully pending the report of the National Boundary Commission, NBC.
4. That the government of Ebonyi and Cross River States should prevail on the National Boundary Commission, NBC to speed up work on the disputed land of Adadama and Amagu.
5. That government of Ebonyi and Cross River States should engage the youths of those areas with the aim of rehabilitating them to be more productive and resourceful.
6. That similar meeting held today 19th May, 2021 at Onuebonyi Echara in Ikwo Local Government be held in Abi Local Government Area specifically on 3rd June, 2021.
7. That while waiting for NBC to come up with its report, the people of Adadama and Amagu Communities should intensify efforts to resolve the problems emanating from the disputed lands internally.
8. That the Joint Peace Committee of Adadama and Amagu code named "ADAMADA" should be reactivated by Ikwo and Abi Local Government Council Chairmen.
9. That a Joint Committee should be formed to visit the affected areas with a view to verifying the various claims and report back to the House in the next meeting that will be held at Abi Local Government Area.
10. That the inter-Local Government meeting between the two Local Government Areas should be held regularly as a confidence building measure.
11. That the meeting is commending the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Unahi and his Cross River State counterpart, Professor Ben Ayade for their peaceful disposition and unwavering commitment in resolving the crises in their States.
