*Reassures commitment on health services delivery to Ebonyi residents
Ebonyi Governor, Engr. David Umahi, has announced that the academic activities of the King David University of Health Sciences, Uburu in Ohazara Council Area of the State would commence on September this year.
Umahi made the disclosure on Tuesday at Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakalki during the flag-off of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund and State Health Insurance Scheme
“Let me announce that our Medical University, the first of its kind will takeoff September, this year. That Medical University is going to be very very expressive University and the quality of education there is going to be second to none.
“This is because all students will live in the university. All staff, I mean specialist teaching staff will live inside the university. And of course we light 24 hours, water 24 hours and security , 24 hours. Everything you need will be in that university.
“And the environment is every wonderful one and it’s the most beautiful and serene community you can ever think of in Africa," Governor Umahi stated.
He said his administration has resolved to work with relevant stakeholders in Ebonyi State and at the Federal level to ensure well-equipped and functional health centre in all 171 wards in the state.
He said his government aimed at ensuring that "all civil servants in the state take cover under the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme."
Umahi thanked the donors, parties, development partners, representatives of the National Health Insurance Scheme and all those who have found it important to make this program happened, describing them as the wonderful citizens in the state.
“I want to commend highly the USAID activities in the state. The others, we heard that you were at the new hospital of our new university. I was so excited and I pray you make good your promises. Our dream is that this should be the best hospital in the whole of Nigeria. And this is possible," he added.
In an interview with newsmen, the Ex-Minister and EBSHIA Board Chairman, Chief Goddy Ogbaga expressed happiness over the flag off of the program, and commended the state governor whom he said was so determined to ensure Ebonyi State pursued the establishment of the law of the agency and its immediate commencement.
He said the governor has made available the relevant facilities which resulted in the flag off of the program, stressing that this would spur the agency to do much more in the state while encouraging Ebonyi people to make good use of the opportunity.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of EBSHIA, Prof. Mrs Uzoma Mary Rose Agwu has explained that the flag off means that the state has accepted the ball rolling to ensure every Ebonyi resident accesses a beautiful and an affordable health care delivery in the state.
He therefore, appreciated those who supported for the success of the program, stressing that the Federal and the state governments embarked on the project to ensure affordable health care delivery in their various areas.
