-Expresses readiness to employ 3, 000 Ebonyians into civil service, 3,000 for empowerment
He made this declaration on Wednesday at Pa Ngele Oruatu township Stadium Abakalki during the Grand Finale of the 2021 Edition of School Sports Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools in the state.
“Those our fathers that witnessed the civil war, they have sad stories to tell us and then our prayers, we say, may that not happen in our land again in Jesus name,” Umahi said.
Governor Umahi who is also the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum asked the people of the region especially the youths to turn away their minds any kind of agitations that may highten the security challenges of the country.
He said it was needless for youths to be pursuing what he described as ‘a senseless agitation’.
Umahi opined that, “we need to redirect the minds of our youths into hard work, into self-esteem, into believing in themselves, and believing that whatever situations they have found themselves, they can turn the situation around for their benefit. This is the agitation that we desire.
“Even though we are financially challenged, but we need these sporting activities to upturn the minds of our children from useless and senseless agitations. The real agitation that we desire, is to secure the future of our children; and that is what our government is doing.”
The governor equally advised Ebonyi State youths not to engage in criminality in the guise of agitation.
He however, congratulated the winning teams for their excellent performance and announced that another version of the sports competition would commence in November this year to allow the state to harness multiple talents in the sports world.
Umahi who was visibly excited with what he saw during the final competition, said, "this relief is in all honesty needed by us, our children they have thrilled us, this feat shall be repeated in November, it shall be more robust.
“In the whole of November, we shall be celebrating the grace of God upon our administration, the success of our Governance and the people of Ebonyi State."
He therefore, declared open the commencement of Dave Umahi Tertiary Institution Games (DUTIGA) across the tertiary institutions in the state to ensure the youths are discouraged from indulging in needless agitations.
He further expressed readiness to employ 3000 civil servants and empowerment of another 3000 Ebonyians before bowing out from office in 2023 while de-emphasizing appointments.
