A brand new 58 medical graduand of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki has been inducted into the medical profession, NATIONAL PANEL reports.
The event held on Monday at Ezzamgbo, the Permanent site of EBSU, was the 19th Batch of Oath-Taking ceremony of the institution's medical graduands.
The University according to the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof Perpetus Chidi Ibekwe has produced a total of 1, 730 medical personnel following the induction of the brand new medical graduands to be solving human health problems around the world.
"At the end of this ceremony, 58 brand new medical doctors shall have been added to the College earlier produced 1,672 medical doctors, to make a total of 1,730 qualified medical personnel, who are gracefully solving human medical problems around the world, " he said.
The Provost while congratulating the newly inducted medical doctors by the university, described the event as a special joyous celebration in considering their contributions towards saving human from health challenges.
According to him, "any medical contribution towards quality medical education, especially now that the world is being challenged by strange ailments, pandemic and unknown gunmen, is to be considered significant and worthy of commendation."
However, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi while congratulating the newly inducted medical doctors, advised them to strictly operate according to the ethics of their profession.
Governor Umahi represented by his Deputy during the occasion, also advised the Universities, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to always create enabling environment alongside the laws that can facilitate the medical activities in the country.
He said: "Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria must at all times make work easy for the professionals in that field, for when they have enabling environment to operate, they will operate optimally."
The Vice Chancellor urged the new medical doctors to be good ambassadors of the institution while practicing their profession by delivery quality service to humanity.
In his part, the Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA), Dr Emaka Onwe Ogah, charged the new medical doctors to be hard working and obedient while discharging their duties, stressing that one showing much dedication and commitment to duty shall reap richly in the profession.
Interacting with Mr Cajethan Oketa, one of the parents of the new medical doctors, described the induction of his son, Dr Oscar Oketa into the medical profession as a fullfilled dream in his life.
Mr Oketa being a retired Permanent Secretary, noted that the successful induction of his son into the medical profession by the University was not by his own power and advised his son to keep God first in whatsoever he does.
"It's not by power or might but by the spirit says the Lord. My son should put God first, Doctors care, only God heals, with God, he will always succeed,” Mr Oketa said.
In collaboration with his father, Dr Oscar Oketa eulogized God for making him a fulfilled man, and further appreciated the Staff and Management of Ebonyi State University for making his mission into the institution a successful one.
NATIONAL PANEL reports that the overall Best Graduating Student among the new medical doctors, Dr. Uzoigwe Ifechukwu Margaret, went home with the State Governor's Prize for BGS - N1 million, other awards including N500,000 - Best in Paediatrics N100,000 - 2nd Best in 3rd MBBS, N100,000 Prize Best in Community Medicine, N100, 000 Best in Internal Medicine, Overall School BGS Prize N200,000, Omaka Prize for BGS N100,000, NMA prize for BGS : N100,000 Automatic Housemanship Job.
