The speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Rt Hon Chief Francis Nwifuru has disbursed millions of Naira to about one hundred undergraduate in various higher Institutions of learning across the country under his scholarship programmes.
The event which took place today at Speaker's lodge in Abakaliki saw the beneficiaries smiling home with the sum of about seventy thousand Naira and one hundred and ten thousand naira according to each person's school fees .
The Speaker who was represented by his wife Mrs Uzoamaka Nwifuru said the Speaker instituted the scholarship program due to ugly experience he had during his earlier school days and does not want any other person to go through such difficulties in paying school fees especially the less privileged and vunerable individuals.
Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who represent Izzi West Constituency further stated that the gesture equally aimed at alleviating the financial burden and at the same time help in repositioning their future.
Also Speaking, the state Attorney General and commissioner for Justice Bar Cletus Ofoke and the chairman Ebonyi Local Government Area Chief Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga appreciated Rt Hon Speaker for what they described as uncommon generosity and urged the beneficiaries to urgently channel the money into the purpose it is meant for and to reciprocate the gesture by been a good ambassador of Chief Francis Nwifuru in their various Institutions .
They also tasked the students to think outside the box on how to be self reliance after graduation rather than depending on their paper qualifications and prayed God to bless the speaker abondantly.
In his goodwill message the former Commissioner for water resources Hon Sunday Inyima lauded the speaker for his uncommon gesture and pleged his support for him and advised the students to avoid social vices such as drug abuse and other related vices and take their study seriously.
One of the beneficiaries and six hundred level students of the department of Medicine and Surgery Ebonyi State University Mr Jerome Oriji who was given the sum of one hundred thousand naira only on behalf of the benefitting Students expressed gratitude to Speaker for the gesture and promised that the money. will be judiciously used in the course of their studies and prayed God to reward Chief Nwifuru abundantly.
Others who spoke at the event include Hon Simon Iseh, Hon Richard Idike, Dr Apostle Awam, HRH Eze Sunday Oketa who all poured encomiums on the Speaker whom they discribed as a role model of other political office holders and that Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru has laid the foundation for the development of people around him.
The event attracted some Stakeholders from Izzi Clam including some traditional rulers and political office holders.
