IZZI CRISIS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT PRESENTED ON MONDAY I6TH AUGUST, 2021
This report is made up of two components; comprising part A (the report of the committee’s activities and part B (the detailed financial report of the committee).
Report of activities:
Background and Terms of Reference
Following the mindless and murderous killings by the Fulani Herdsmen on 30th May, 2021 at Nduegu Ishieke Community, Izhi Tehu Foundation in consultation with her board of trustees and Izhi stake holders initiated a fifteen man Izhi Crisis Management Committee on 31st May, 2021. Oha Izhi Nnodo, in her wisdom and in good faith, adopted the Izhi Crisis Management Committee, expanded it and inaugurated the committee on 8th June 2021with 25 members. The major terms of reference of the committee were to mobilize support in all ramifications to assist the victims of the gruesome attack and assist in their rehabilitation and resettlement in the community. The committee had a total of seven seatings. The first visit to the four affected villages was on 12/06/2021 to ascertain first hand information on the extent of the killings and damages by herdsmen. The second committee visit to the affected villages was on 11/7/2021 and from both visits; the following findings were made by the committee as presented in table 1.

Source: Izzi Crisis Management committee Visit of 12/6/2021 and 11/7/2021
NB: (1). The + 1 on death record is one person killed, who is from Ndubia Nduidenyi village but the village was not attacked.
(2). There was gradual return to the villages for resettlement as at June 12, 2021 and 11/7/2021 as reported by the villagers and seen by the committee.
3. There is one secondary school at Nduobashi village and one at Odoke village: all by village and community efforts including payments of the teachers. No government presence in this regards.
4. The four villages affected have one Primary school each and still by village and community efforts including payments of the teachers.
5. In the entire community and the villages, there is apparently no hospital, no road, no borehole water, no electricity and no government presence in any social amenities. Their nearest Hospital is Onuenyim Agbaja in Izzi LGA.
6. A Redeemed Church building was burnt down at Ekpufu village.
8. As at June 12th 2021 and July 11th, 2021, there is no known case of missing person in the community/villages.
9. That after the incident of the attack, a joint security of Police and Army from Benue state had visited the community and investigation is still ongoing.
11. The committee observed that a lot of domestic and household property were destroyed and burnt to ashes.
13. Committee also captured other demographic facts like the population of taxable adults among others.
Consequently, the committee mobilized stakeholders and Nduegu Ishieke community members on 10th July at Ndugo village and distributed 100 bushels of rice, 100 bags of Ghana-must-go load of clothing materials and other food items to the entire affected household in the four villages. Consolation cash was also given to them on the 10th of July during the committee visit. The details of the cash given to them are contained in the part B of this report.
Finally, on the 11th of August, the committee mobilized the community members again and Izzi clergies for mass burial service for all souls murdered during the ill fated attack, with 21 gunshot salute and distributed consolation cash to 170 burnt shops owners at Nwori Nduobashi market and also gave out consolation cash to the left over deaths persons that were not given during the first visit.
A total of 486 cash donations were received from individuals and groups; both home & abroad, including friends of Izzi people outside Izzi clan, while numerous clothing materials & food item were also received by the committee.
APPRECIATION
The committee graciously appreciates all the people who made donations both in cash and in kind towards alleviating the predicament and dilemma meted on the innocent souls and people of Nduegu Ishieke community by the callus Fulani killers on 30th May, 2021. May Ali Izhi reward all of you for this uncommon show of kindness and love.
On a special note, the committee greatly acknowledge and appreciates the efforts made by Ebonyi State government through the Governor of the state; HE. Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi, especially on the treatment and feeding of over 92 people that sustained various degree of injuries, of which some patients are still recovering, while majority have been discharged at the time of this report.
Apart from financial contributions and donations, the committee also particularly acknowledged and deeply appreciates the additional selfless service and relentless efforts made by the following individuals in the cause of managing the crisis situation:
The Speaker of EBSHA: Rt Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru,
Chairman Ebonyi LGA -Hon. Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga,
Hon. Solomon Uzoke,
Mr. Louis Nwebonyi,
Fr. Daniel Agara,
Dr Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh and
Mr Albert Oketa.
Finally, the committee appreciates the following groups for their group efforts and contributions: Oha Izhi Nnodo, Izhi Tehu Foundation, Izhi Clergy, Izhi Youth Forum, Izhi Medical Doctors, Izhi Lawyers and various Izzi club. The prayer of the committee is that God who sees in secret will rewards all our individual and group efforts and contributions in Jesus name, Amen. We also sincerely thank friends of Izhi clan who made donation to assist the victims even though they are not from Izhi land.
RECOMMENDATIONS
By the committee’s observations in the course of discharging her duty, the committee therefore offers the following recommendations:
That out of the balance of N685,404.89, Nduegu Ishieke Community Development Union who had approached the committee in person and in writing for financial assistance be given the sum of N500,000 to enable them offset the cost of autopsy required for the dead victims, while the remaining balance of 185,404.89 be used in assisting the discharged victims to buy drugs and pay for check up test. This is because their medical bill paid by the state government stops as soon as they are discharged and they are usually stranded when they come back for check up in the hospital (as most of them come for check up with borrowed transport money and only for them to be asked to buy some drugs and run some medical test).
The boundary related issue in the community should be revisited to alleviate the suffering of Izzi people there; since it appears that they are completely forgotten.
Government of Ebonyi and Benue state should assist in the boundary demarcation of the community.
Signed
Rev. Fr. Vincent Odom Rev. Fr. Daniel Agara

Dr Friday Nkwede
