As the State Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) draws nearer, the Caretaker Chairman of the party in Ebonyi, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha has said the principles of equity and fair play would characterize the exercise in the state.
Chief Okoro-Emegha revealed this while interacting with the members of the Independent Media Practitioners in his office in Abakakili on Monday, 20th September, 2021.
Speaking on the modalities of the congress scheduled to take place on 2nd October, 2021, the state Caretaker Chairman observed that although consensus is an option constitutionally recognised by the party guidelines, stakeholders are working tirelessly to ensure that smooth, peaceful and credible exercise is conducted as witnessed during the ward and local Government congresses in the state.
He explained that the governor, His Excellency, Engr Chief (Dr) David Nweze Umahi, as the number one member of the party in the state has carefully and thoughtfully set machineries in place to ensure a hitch-free exercise, stressing that he is working closely with other stakeholders to make sure the incoming executives would not only be chosen through consensus but will be men of great vigilance and integrity whom Ebonyi people as a whole will hold at high esteem because of their antecedent and pedigree.
Chief Okoro-Emegha who reiterated that the decision of the Governor is anchored on the fact that the incoming executives would be saddled with among other functions the responsibility of campaigning and winning the general elections come 2023 with a very wide margin, explained that they would be leaders who have track record of discipline, decency and trustworthy without an iota of betrayal.
"Through the magnanimity of the Governor's guidance, we are going to repeat our enviable records of being the most peaceful and organised state in Nigeria as we did in the two congresses held few months ago. Today, even National Secretariat is proud of that achievement as it uses it to advise other states where there were issues. For me, the credit goes firstly to the leader of the party in the state, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi and other party faithful who complied with directives. We are very optimistic that we cannot do less as we are going to consolidate on our gains".
He swiftly conveyed the gratitude of the working committee alongside other stakeholders in Ebonyi State to the National body of the APC for making the process of the congresses transparent, noting that it reduces litigation and provides ample opportunity for them to successfully prepare for the general elections ahead.
While taking advantage of the interaction, Chief Okoro-Emegha who is also contesting for the Chairmanship position of APC in Ebonyi State charged members of his party to continue to be loyal and law abiding to the constituted authority as they prepare for the forthcoming Congress. He assured them of better days ahead, stressing that APC is not only a household but the best political party.
"I wish to use this opportunity and enjoin our party members and the entire Ebonyi people to continue to be peaceful and law abiding because we can achieve our dreams as a state and individuals only in atmosphere of peace devoid of rancour and bitterness. Let's join hands with our peace-loving Governor irrespective of our differences to build our state and Nigeria as a whole".
The state caretaker chairman of APC who is also the Special Security Consultant (SSC) to the state government urged the members of the Independent Media Practitioners to be professional in the discharge of their official responsibilities by using the pen wisely, bearing in mind that destructive journalism will be of great disservice to the entire State.
In his remarks, the National President of Independent Media Practitioners, Mr Nelson Nwefuru poured encomium on Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha as a leader who has distinguished himself in various positions of trust and pledged to use their forum and contribute to the growth and development of Ebonyi State.
