Ebonyi withdraws former C of O, starts recertification, revalidation

Ebonyi state government has announced its withdrawal of all the former certificates of occupancy (C of O) from the residents.


The Special Assistant to the state governor on Lands and Survey, Chief Emmanuel Igwe made the announcement, Thursday, in Abakaliki.


Igwe said that the general public has been notified of the Executive Order made by Ebonyi Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, who directed  for the compulsory recertification of all the Certificates of Occupancy in the state.

He said that the former Certificates of occupancy awarded to the residents have been withdrawn as recertification and revalidation of the documents commenced immediately.


"In view of this, the general public are hereby notified  that the former C Of O are hereby withdrawn. 

"There is ongoing recertification of all Certificates of occupancy (C of O) and revalidation of all title documents in Ebonyi State by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Lands and Survey," he said.

Igwe advised all affected persons to go to Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Board to obtain TIN number and thereafter proceed to FCMB to pay  the sum of twenty thousand naira only (20,000) into the dedicated IGR account. 

He added: "After making the payment in the bank, you should change the teller to receipt at the IGR Board Abakaliki and bring the photocopy including two photocopies of all relevant documents and receipts pertaining to the land/property in two file jackets to the Office of the SA on Lands and Survey at Block 2, Third floor, Centenary City Abakaliki for verification.

"By this development, the general public are hereby advised  not to transact any business concerning landed property  without recertification certificates from the Office of the SA on Lands and Survey as the former documents are no longer legal tender by the provisions of the Executive order. Banks and other relevant institutions should be properly guided.
