...Says this goodwill goes straight to posterity
...Tasks political leaders across the divides to emulate the philanthropic disposition of this exemplary leader to reduce poverty and tension within the polity
In a statement made available to media houses in Port Harcourt, Chief Eze, South South APC Chieftain and an erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), said Prof. Henry Ugboma has committed himself to the service of humanity and his antecedents as displayed in the burial of Mannah, speaks volume of his goodwill.
Mannah represented the good people of Ahoada East Constituency I, in the Rivers State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2019 and was also an unrepentant critic of Governor Nyesom Wike and his maladministration in Rivers State.
His yearn for good governance and democratic dividends led to his exit from the People’s Democratic Party on which platform he emerged Lawmaker, joining the All Progressives Congress.
Mannah’s entrance into the APC drew him closer to former Rivers Governor and Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
He had also appealed to his colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly to join him in the APC to help right the wrongs of the Wike government in the state.
Mannah was an activist who advocated for the Niger Delta people. He was the Founder of Orashi Youth Movement and also a former national leader and security secretary of the Orashi Youth Council.
Manna established an NGO, Martyns-Mannah and Friends Foundation, with a goal of poverty alleviation, especially in his Ahoada East local government area.
Mannah entered politics in 1991, when he was still in secondary school. He campaigned for the first time in 2004 as Deputy Chairman of Ahoada East under the platform of ANPP, where he lost. In 2011 he campaigned as Deputy Chairman of Ahoada East under the platform of the PDP but lost again.
However in 2015, Martyns Mannah campaigned to represent Ahoada East I at the Rivers State House of Assembly where he won after a supplementary election.
The ex-Lawmaker died in June 2020.
Reacting to the great inputs of Prof Ugboma to ensure the successful burial of this great Grassroot Mobilizer and vibrant son of Rivers State whose burial was delayed for over a year due to some challenging issues until the timely intervention of Prof Ugboma, Hon Henry Meshack who doubles as the Leader of Hon Martyns Mannah Support Group and The DG of the deceased Campaign group, highlighted that the Completion of the House we are seeing today and the Burial of Hon Martyns Mannah is as a result of the magnanimity, philanthropist ,good heart and love for the people by Prof Henry Ugboma, The Chief Medical Director of UPTH an Orashi Son. In his words, " Prof Ugboma did not just play a role in the completion of the structure but went ahead to see that we fix a date to bury Hon Martyns.
Prof Ugboma at the burial admonished the Family and the APC family who where on ground when he arrived the compound of the bereaved family to take solace in the words of God knowing that this world is not our home. He asked them to trust God who will not allow them to see shame and a result of the death of Martyns but will certainly make a way where there seems to be no way. "Let me reiterate and promise hereby that I will be part of the family to close the gap of the death of Martyns may have caused the family and His political family."
Eze called on other leaders of the party to join Prof. Ugboma in his acts of goodwill especially, as he continues to rally round the family at their low ebb.
Eze further stated that with the level of poverty and agitations by most members of both APC and PDP including other political parties due to seemingly neglect by key political leaders, it becomes imperative in order to address this sad situation amongst politicians at the lower range, key political leaders must have to emulate the exemplary leadership style of Prof Henry Ugboma in his drive to influence employment and empowerment of most of our politicians.
Eze reasons that if this is adopted , it will go a long way to cement the unity amongst politicians at the lower range of our politics with those at the top and will surely reduce tensions and agitations within our rank.
