Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha has been declared winner of
Chairmanship position of Ebonyi State APC state Congress held on Saturday, 16th
October, 2021 at Pa Ngele Oruta township stadium Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State
capital.
Declaration the result, the Chairman of APC state Congress
committee for Ebonyi State, Mr Ideato C. Ideato announced that Chief Stanley
Okoro Emegha pulled the total of 1080 votes out of 1151 accredited votes to emerge
winner, while his rival, Mr Akanu Okoro scored the total of 61 votes.
Shortly after he was declared winner, Chief Emegha who
currently the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of APC Ebonyi State, promised to
redouble his efforts in galvanizing more
support for his party in the state and beyond.
He appreciated Governor David Umahi for his integrity, due
diligence and legacies which translated to the peaceful, transparent and
credible exercise, describing him as a father, consummate leader, a master
planner and a democrat of note.
Chief Emegha who was visibly overwhelmed with joy thanked the party members, delegates who
participated in the congress and stakeholders for their patience, perseverance
and determination to be integral part of process in the state.
"I am like the singing bird that said when it's
grandmother would die that no body will eat, that he will go on entertaining
people but unfortunately, he developed a growth in his mouth, that cannot be my
portion. Your Excellency, I must say that the Caretaker Committee of APC is
well pleased with you for the way you have been piloting the affairs of the
Party. Thank you very much for your wonderful support so far."
While laying credence to transparent, credible and peaceful
process of the congress, Chief Emegha noted that his party has remained
resolute in maintaining transparency and credibility as the leading political
party in Nigeria, stressing that the confidence reposed in him and other Executive
members will spur them to work more assiduously to ensure that absolute peace,
unity and tranquility continue to be the watchword of their
administration.
"You have shown much faith in us, even as we were
serving as caretaker committee members, you were our dependable allies. For the
demonstration of your unreserved support, I wish to pledge on behalf of my
executives that we will continue to run an open-door policy and will do more in
the area of our reconciliatory move to make sure that no other political party
exists in the State because Ebonyi is APC and APC is Ebonyi State.
"We will run this administration in full compliance
with the party's principles because party is supreme. We will have utmost
respect for our leaders and other party faithful. Our strength will be premised
on the principle of fair-play and above all, we will chart the way forward for
a better Ebonyi State with our leader and mentor His Excellency, Governor David
Umahi being at the forefront.
Earlier before the commencement of accreditation and voting
by delegates, the State Governor Chief David Nweze Umahi poured encomium on
president Muhammadu Buhari whose due diligence and purposeful leadership
translated to the peaceful congress, thereby making APC an exemplary political
party in Nigeria.
"Let me first and foremost congratulate our National
Leader, Mr President whose pragmatic disposition has given rise to our
Progressive Party, the APC. APC is a great house, a great Party. Let me also
congratulate the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and all APC Governors both
those here and those who will join us in a matter of moment. Your Excellency,
the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, the Governor of Ekiti State because
those of us who have joined you are not regretting it and we are at home.
"I am not only the Governor and Apostle, I am also a
prophet, when my friend and Governor of Edo was in APC and I was in PDP, I
prophesied that he was going to win and eventually, he won. The defection has
happened and no man can reverse it. There was a mix up where somebody said he
was going to conduct parallel Congress in Ebonyi State, it is not feasible
under my watch.
"I want to specially thank the people at the grassroots
for standing by us during the Ward and Local Government Congresses. They have
really stood by the party. We will continue to live by example, we will
continue to support Mr. President and I want to thank those who are here to
participate in the congress and I want to assure you that we are set."
Recall that since the inauguration of chief Stanley Okoro
Emegha as the Chairman Caretaker Committee of Ebonyi State APC on the 19th
of November, 2020. He has deployed all available resources to reconcile members
of the party, hitherto known for not having less than three factions in the
state. This move most political analysts said, was the greatest selling point
of Chief Emegha. His peaceful disposition and unparalleled intelligence as well
as humility were why some others even the aggrieved members could not resist
shelving their sword during his
reconciliation and consultation moves to make the party formidable.
The Chairman elect vowed to strengthen the structure of
party towards a landslide victory come 2023, noting he will ensure he collapse
all political parties in the state into APC.
