Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, Obinna Ogba, yesterday said Super Eagles will defeat Central African Republic(CAR) in the two leg World Cup qualifying matches in Lagos and Doula.
He said the Eagles did very well in their last two matches against Liberia and Cape Verde which they won and will replicate same when they confront CAR.
Ogba stated this in Nkalagu, Ishielu local area, Ebonyi state while speaking with members of the state Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN).
He called for support of Gernot Rohr, adding that he has not failed in his mandate as the Super Eagles Coach.
He said “they have done very well but we are not yet there and you know, as the match comes, they progress with it. We believe strongly that the two matches they have; one in Lagos, one in Doula we are going to win those matches God willing.
“The Coach has a mandate, some people talk about the coach. He has not failed from his mandate. We have to give him a chance to finish his assignment and the assignment is to qualify us for Nations Cup and qualify us for World Cup and get to get to certain level in Nations Cup and possibly win. Then in World Cup, to get us out of preliminary stage”, said.
On the bill for establishment of Sports Academy which has passed second reading, Ogba who represents Ebonyi Central Zone in the Senate, said when passed into law, will give the Nigerian youths what they want.
“It is one of the most important and celebrated bills not just sponsored by me but the entire National Assembly members because it is a bill that in the first reading, nobody oppose it. In the second reading, nobody opposed and we have already called for public hearing.
“Now, we are getting the report ready. If not our congress, I could have lay the report this week. But God willing, by next week, we are going to lay the report and I am sure that if that bill comes up for the third reading, it is going to be successful. It is in the last stages now.
“ I am only appealing that if the bill is passed that the President should find a place in his heart for Nigeria youths both male and female, to assent it because that is a bill that will give the Nigerian youths what they want, that is a bill that you will no longer notice a drop out in the universities because every human being has one talent or the other given to the person by almighty God and if you are not giving academics, you can give one sporting activity or the other.
“I think it is a very important bill and I felt that in the whole of Africa, you cannot find it. You can only find it in the Europe and South America and if we have it in Nigeria particularly in Ebonyi state, it will be a good development”, he stated. ENDS
