The people of Opi Autonomous Community in Amasiri, Afikpo North Local Government Area Community on Wednesday, 23rd February 2022 presented Omezue Paul Uchendu Ndukwe, a graduate of YABATECH,Lagos and to the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Hon Barr Oby Oko Enyim as their Eze-elect.
The epoch-making event, attracted Elders,Leaders and youths of the Community who stormed the Local Government Headquarters at Afikpo with traditional dancers. It was indeed colourful.
The occasion which started with an opening Prayer said by Dr. Peter Inya Eburu climaxed when Elder Felix Ijeomanta, the Secretary of Uke-Ogo Opi Autonomous Community, in joy and amidst applause, told the Council Chairman and other Functionaries of the Council that his people both at home and in diaspora had agreed through their votes that Omezue Paul Uchendu Ndukwe would be their Traditional Ruler and therefore have come to formally present him to the Local Government
He explained that the Community followed the Executive Order 002 to elect Omezue Paul Uchendu Ndukwe on the 20th Day of November 2021 in a Free, Fair and credible election devoid of any acrimony and litigations.
He explained that the election of Omezu Paul Ndukwe and his formal Presentation to the Council was neccesitated by the need to fill the vacuum created for some years now in the Traditional stool of Opi Autonomous Community following the demise of Opike 1 in 2012(10 years ago)
Speaking further, the Uke-Ogo Scribe described the Eze-Elect as a man with commendable credentials whose track record of uprightness was outstanding during his days in the public Service adding that the Eze-Elect would bring the area to limelight for more progress and development, even more than other communities in Ebonyi State.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Barr. Oby Oko Enyim Congratulated the Autonomous Community and the Eze-elect and hinted that it is only God who makes a King at the appointed time no matter how long it takes and expressed joy that the election complied substantially with the Executive Order 002 of Ebonyi State Government.
She noted that the admistration of Governor David Umahi in Ebonyi State abhors violence hence she commended the people of Opi Autonomous Community for exhibiting high sense of responsibility which culminated in a peaceful and orderly conduct of the Ezeship election on the 20th Day of November 2021.
The Council Boss who promised to forward their request to His Excellency,the State Governor who is vested with the authority to recognize and give Staff of Office to such person, enjoined the Eze-Elect to always align himself with the policy thrust of Ebonyi State Government as well as rule with the fear of God
Adding his voice, the Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre,Hon. Baron Enya thanked the Governor of the State,Engr David Nweze Umahi and the Local Government chairman,Barr.Oby Oko Enyim for their pragmatic leadership which resulted in the peaceful conduct of the Ezeship election.
He thanked the Almighty God for giving the Community such a selfless and kind-hearted Leader like Omezue Paul Uchendu Ndukwe as their Eze -Elect expressing optimism that he will use his wealth of experience to foster peace and development in their Autonomous Community.
In a Remark, the Eze-Elect of Opi Autonomous Community, Omezue Paul Uchendu Ndukwe said he is grateful to his people for finding him worthy to serve as their Traditional Ruler and promised not to disappoint them.
