The 3- man ad-hoc delegate Congress of the opposition political party, the people's Democratic party PDP, in Ebonyi, on Wednesday, ended in deadlock as the Chairman of the 3-man delegate Congress, Prof. Emmanuel Wasse Okachi alleged that the state PDP Chairman, Barr. Silas Joseph Onu forced him under duress, to share letters which he said has no identify of the recipient.
"I want to tell you what has happened in Ebonyi PDP. For my integrity sake am addressing the press, am addressing all of you. The letters that was given to me to share to team leaders were without any form of identification. So, I would have given these letters out to people I did not know and I was forced to do that.
As am talking to you, I have given out about eight or so, and I have five with me here. Infact, I was threatened by the party chairman that I will not leave the hotel unless I submit those letters to him. I submitted to him under duress and that's what I want you people to know", he stated.
In response, the state PDP Chairman, Barr Silas Joseph Onu described as falsehood video clip circulating around the social media that the chairman of Ebonyi 3-man Ad-hoc Delegates election was threatened under gun point to submit election materials.
The party Chairman explained that on the arrival of the delegation from Abuja, he was presented with a letter from the national leadership of the party through the committee which recommended he accord them regards as the chairman of the party and he offered to provide accommodation which was refused by the Chairman and never wanted members of his team to know his where about.
According to him "He never shared electoral material with anybody or disclose his to to his team members, nobody compelled him to do that"
"He left and before he left because the election could not hold yesterday,he was recommending to his team members that the election should be cancelled".
"He didn't come to conduct Congress,he came that the congress be cancelled"
He continued " Today, we were hoping we will conduct congreses if INEC was on ground, why we were waiting for National to communicate to INEC, the professor refused to give results sheets to the returning officers which was in ground and I insisted he give to eight of the returning officers who was on ground"
Barr Onu further explained that he is aware that some desperate politicians has bought the Chairman of the committee over but opined that under his chairmanship the right thing must be done, saying that aspirants must go out and talk to delegates as the day of staying in ones bed room to write results was over.
Meanwhile, National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} has voided the parties congress held in Ebonyi state to, Wednesday, May 4th, 2022 over irregularities.
The party in a press statement published on their social media platform, accredited to Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary sets tomorrow, May 5th, 2022 as the congress day.
The press release reads “PDP to Hold Ebonyi 3-man Ad-Hoc Delegate Congress Thursday, May 5, 2022″
The Statention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to reports of a purported conduct of 3-man Ad-Hoc Delegate Congress in Ebonyi State today, Wednesday, May 4, 2022″.
“For thee avoidance of doubt, the said 3-man Ad-Hoc Delegate Congress in Ebonyi State on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 is by law, null and void and as such unrecognized”.
“This is because such Congresses are by law, subject to be monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which in this case, was not available to monitor the exercise”.
“Based on the unavailability of INEC to monitor the exercise today, Wednesday, May 4, 2022, the NWC rescheduled the conduct of the 3-man Ad-Hoc Delegates Congress in Ebonyi State for Thursday, May 5, 2022”.
“All members of our Party in Ebonyi State should therefore discountenance any exercise conducted on Wednesday May 4, 2022 as the PDP 3-man Ad-Hoc Delegates Congress in Ebonyi State will duly hold on Thursday, May 5 2022”.
Recall that the 3-man delegate Congress which was earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd of May, 2023 was rescheduled for Wednesday 4th May, due to the shooting that occurred around the party office on Tuesday.
