Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, has said that the fight to restore peace and dignity of Ikwo Noyo clan will continue until it is achieved.
Dr Kelechi Igwe disclosed this on Thursday, when he led the stakeholders of Ikwo LGA on a condolence visit to the Abakaliki home of the Executive Chairman of the council, Elder Stephen Orogwu, over the unfortunate killing of his elder brother, Mr Egwu Orogwu, 75 and the two sons, Chigbogu and Sunday Orogwu, 26 and 19 and a local security operative, Kelechi Nwauji and as well burning of his house at his Ekpaomaka Ikwo country home on Tuesday, by yet to be identified gunmen.
Igwe, bemourned the gruesome murder of Mr Egwu Orogwu, who he said, is neither into partisan politics nor, in any other group, but had mostly been away in the United States. He wondered the crimes of the man's children too, describing the murder of the victims as senseless and reckless.
The Deputy Governor, while consoling the Chairman, encouraged him to not lose heart but to see the multitudes gathered to sympathize with him and the many others that came yesterday as clear evidence of the love of his people for him.
"You will not because of this decide to give up. Since people heard that this tragedy befell you, they have been coming to see you, to identify with you. That should show you who you're to Ikwo people. People may say all manner of things, it's all politics. When people want to tell themselves the truth, they remove the garment of politics and tell themselves the truth. You have distinguished yourself.
"Similar hatred have been displayed to Ikwo leaders in the recent past. Hatred shown to leaders and stakeholders for the little they achieved. Our youths need to begin to think better. To look beyond politics, to acquire skills and knowledge that would better their lives.
"Don't give up because of this. You're on a mission. You must continue on the path of truth. On our part, we will continue to stand on the platform of truth to fight those whose goal is to terminate lives. People fight and lose their lives because they want others to live, we will continue to do so. We will continue to fight to restore peace in Ikwo. They have shared the list of those they plan to attack and our names are there. But the man who dies is the man who is afraid to die. Leaders must understand this and stand strong to do what's right and just. At the end of the day, there will be judgement, and all would be judged for their deeds on Earth."
Other peakers during the visit, include Chief Barr. Okeagu Ogada, HRH Eze D.I Aloh, Dr. Sam Nte Egwu, Hon. Ngozi Igwe, Chief Francis Igwe, Hon. Moses Odunwa and Hon. Bensteve Ede, all sympathized with the chairman. Eulogizing the chairman for his peaceful disposition at all times, his good heartedness, kindness and incomparable commitment to the betterment and security of Ikwo LGA, speaker after speaker described the attack as most undeserved, inhumane, reckless and heartless. It was, in their words, an attack borne from the heart of evil.
In his response, Elder Steve Orogwu expressed gratitude at the visit and the outpour of condolences that has continued unabated since the news of the tragedy broke up. He described the attack as the price of leadership, noting that if he had never been Ikwo LGA Chairman such attack would never have come. He made clear that his only mission is to live Ikwo better and safer and promised to continue to do so undeterred.
Other stakeholders present at the condolence visit include Barr. Emeka Nwode, Hon. Onyekachi Nwoba Bone, Chief Celestine Nwokpuru Nwali, Barr. Sunday Nwankwo, Prof. Eugene Nweke, Prof. Okpata, Hon. Okechukwu Nwakpu, Hon. John Nte, Hon. Nwode Eche and wife, Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu (Nwabutique), Hon. Louisa Onyinye Nweke and husband, Development Center Coordinators from Ikwo LGA, members of Ikwo legislative Council among numerous Others.
Leadership and members of groups like Ikwo Development Union (IDU), Ikwo Noyo Youth Consultative Forum, Association of Ikwo Noyo media practitioners, CAN, Students Union, women groups among others were also on ground to pay their condolences.
There was also a prayer session for the family and restoration of peace in Ikwo.
