Governor David Umahi has strengthened his vow to pursue equity in Ebonyi State by handing over power to the Izhi Clan of Ebonyi North Senatorial district in 2023.
The Governor reinforced the commitment Saturday, while speaking as a special guest at the grand finale of the 2022 Ojiji (New Yam) festival of the Clan held at the clan's ancestral home, Amagu, Abakaliki.
Governor Umahi lauded the liberality and peaceful disposition of the Izhi People since the creation of the State, promising to always give solidarity to their cause, especially as activities gear up for 2023 general elections.
He further appreciated the people's tremendous support for his administration from inception, adding that the least he could do as a reciprocation was to ensure that the Izhi Clan clinch the governorship position by the next year's election.
"Let me first say that I am very proud of Ndi Izhi.
"By God's special grace and the support of Izhi people as well as other Ebonyians, I became Governor.
"I want to tell you that the way you have supported this project, I am highly encouraged.
"I am very obedient to your course, and my obedience is only to your course.
"By the first of October, on behalf of Ndi Izhi and APC, I will roll out three million match in support of Ndi Izhi and APC.
"When I was campaigning, I told Izhi people that even if there is any problem, I will unite Izhi as one.
"Today, that promise is fulfilled.
"I shall fight for you and your people shall be my people."
The APC Gubernatorial Candidate and Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru appreciated the Governor for his love for Izhi people and pledged the people's continued solidarity to Governor Umahi even beyond the span of his administration.
Others who spoke at the event, including an Elder statesman and former Senator, Chris Nwankwo; the Chairman, Oha Izhi Nnodo Clan, Chief Sunday Oketa, thanked the Governor for the fortunes his administration has brought to the Izhi people, as well as the massive infrastructure across the State.
Senator Nwankwo lauded the Governor for being steadfast in his promise to handover the governorship of the State to an Izhi man, expressing hope that the project would come to fruition in 2023.
Oketa, represented by the Secretary, Oha Izhi, Dr. John Nkwuda, noted that apart from the event providing an opportunity for the clan to thank the Governor for all the good fortunes his administration has brought to the Clan, it also afforded them the platform to demonstrate love, kindness, generosity, and obedience to their common heritage.
He further applauded Governor David Nweze Umahi for massive infrastructural development of Abakaliki Capital City which is at the heart of Izhi land.
The Governor was accompanied to the event by senior government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Dr Kelechi Igwe, the Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Ngene and President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Uhuo amongst others.
The Ojiji Izhi festival is an agelong cultural heritage which has continued to bond the entire Izhi clan occupying three Local government areas in Ebonyi North: Abakaliki, Izzi and Ebonyi.
