A Civil Society Action Group in Nigeria, on Friday at Abakaliki endorsed all the candidates of the Labour Party (LP).
The members of the civil organization cutting across the 13 LGAs and 171 awards in the state said their decision to endorse the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and Edward Nkwegu for the gubernatorial position of their state was as directed by God and in their consideration on their past and present antecedents.
The State Coordinator of the group, Reverend Peter Ezeudo declared openly the determination by his members to canvass massive votes to ensure the victory of the Labour Party Presidential candidate - Peter Obi, the party's gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi, Edward Nkwegu, alongside the National and the State House Assembly candidates.
Reverend Ezeudo commended the characters and antecedents of the Labour Party flag bearers beginning from the presidential candidate, and the state gubernatorial candidate, among others.
Lending his voice, the Secretary of the group, Reverend Augustine Nwaji expressed confidence that all the Labour Party candidates would emerge victorious at the 2023 polls.
He assured the Labour Party candidates of their readiness to rally around for their victory come the 2023 general elections in the state.
Responding, the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi thanked the group for endorsing him and other candidates of his party in the state.
He said that the Labour Party campaign should be anchored on issue-based, and declared his support to the gubernatorial candidate of the state, Arc Nkwegu on the grounds of equity, promising character, competence, capacity and antecedents in human management and wealth creation as an industrialist.
Also speaking, Arc Edward Nkwegu, the State Labour Party governorship flagbearer who expressed joy over his endorsement by the group, assured them of bringing in economic transformation through industrialisation in the state.
The Labour Party governorship hopeful said his agenda would guarantee economic transformation in Ebonyi, with bold enablers through rapid industrialization of the state.
"I'm going to create 13,000 micro small and medium enterprises in two years in Ebonyi State, and that will give us indirect employment of about 250, 000 persons in our state," Nkwegu hinted.
He expressed confidence that with the industrialization of the state, problems of the unemployment in Ebonyi would be solved.
He pledged to introduce mechanized agriculture to encourage youths and women to involve themselves in agriculture practices, "because what we use before are outdated, and we need to improve on agriculture by introducing modern techniques."
He added: "We will ensure infrastructural enhancement, provision of basic amenities to our people both in the urban and rural communities, first will be reticulation of pipe borne water across our state."
He assured of embarking on mineral exploration and development in Ebonyi, which in his words, will be having direct positive impacts on the economy of the state.
He added: "There will be jobs, jobs and jobs. There will be all-inclusive and sustainable wealth creation.
"These are things that will happen in our economic transformation agenda. In the civic program, we are going to look at education. In the education sector, there will be access to infrastructure, curriculum reformation and relevance in such a way that what our people study in our schools should be relevant in the contemporary society and under my watch, If I emerge Ebonyi State governor in 2023, there will quality health care and delivery, and also the empowerment of the youth, women vulnerable people."
Recall that Arc Nkwegu had earlier described the President Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi as the most credible and competent among the contenders for the apex seat in the country, urging Ebonyi people to continue throwing their weight behind the Labour Party candidates in the state.
Other speakers at the event included the Labour Party Candidate for Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone, Amb Lawrence Nwuruku, the party's candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Prince Chibueze Ndubuisi Agbo, the State Coordinator of Peter Obi support group, Chief John Agha, the State Women Leader of the Civil Society Action Group among others, upheld that the victory of the Labour Party Candidates in the state in 2023 would be a landslide one in considering their characters, competence, capacity and antecedents.
