The president, OHANEZE NDIGBO worldwide,
Ebonyi State chapter, Dr Peter Mbam said, OHANEZE is in full support of all
agitation that speaks against the
marginalization of Igbos in the affairs of Nigeria.
Dr Mbam stated this on Monday during an
interaction with journalist in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
Dr Mbam noted that the marginalization
against the Igbos in Nigeria has attracted aggressive agitations from other
ethnic nationalities and groups such as Afenifere, middle belt among others.
He insists that Ohaneze, being the apex
Igbo socio cultural organization, whose major objective is for the welfare and
unity of Igbos anywhere in the world, will continue to speak and support all
those speaking against the marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria.
He said, "Ohaneze is an Apex
Socio-Cultural Organization, an umbrella body for the interest of all ndigbo
where ever they are in the World.
"It covers and controls all other Igbo
various Organizations.
"It therefore takes an overview of the
Social, Cultural, Economic and Political dynamics of the Country and guides/influences
Ndigbo on how to go about them, with the ultimate interest of Ndigbo. We
therefore use the slogans"Igwe bu ike”(Unity is Power) and' Onye aghana
Nwanenne ya” (Be your brother's keeper).
"Presently, Ohanaeze does not give
momentum to leaving Nigeria. However, we stand with all agitations against
marginalization of Ndigbo in Nigeria.
“We believe in Nigeria, where all peoples
and groups are treated with justice, equity and fair play. And in our doing
this, Ohanaeze's approach is diplomacy and dialogue, not violence or banditry.
Ohaneze therefore, strongly support that the next President of Nigeria in 2023
should come from the South East, as a matter of fairness and urges other
components of the country to agree.
"In Ebonyi State, Ohanaeze Leadership
strongly collaborate and support the Governor and Government of the state in
the delivery of good service to Ebonyi State and South East.
Ohanaeze leadership works closely with the
Political Leadership at all levels, especially in the 7 States, where we have
predominantly Igbos, as well as with the Federal Government, to ensure peaceful
co-existence and Socio-economic Development, in an atmosphere of equity, justice
and fair play".
The Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, WorldWide,
Ebonyi State Chapter, however, appealed to all the members of the Political
Class in the State to strive to maintain the already established
rotational/zoning pattern for the Governorship Position, for justice, equity
and peace to continue to rein in Ebonyi State.
According to the president, the State
Leadership of Ohanaeze arrived at the position during its Consultative Meeting,
held recently in Abakaliki.
Dr Peter Obasi Mbam, said that the
Leadership of the lgbo socio-cultural
Organization in the State arrived at that
position, after critically analyzing the
peaceful movement of the Governorship
position since 1999; from Ebonyi North to Central and to South Senatorial
Zones, and maintained that returning the
Governorship position to Ebonyi North
Senatorial Zone for the next round would
be the surest way of maintaining peace and
brotherly love in the State; as it
would understandably move to Central and
South Zones, respectively, again.
The President Further re-iterated the
Ohanaeze State Leadership support to the position of His Excellency, the
Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr (Chief) David Nweze Umahi, for the Governorship
seat to return to Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone and urged the State Founding
Fathers, members of the Elders Council, the Political class and indeed all
Ebonyians to Join hands with our peace-loving Governor and ensure a successful
Transition of the Governorship position to Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, in
2023.
The State Leadership of the Apex Igbo
Socio-cultural Organization further advised the State Political Class, to
ensure that the same Zoning and Rotation Principles are maintained for other
Positions (Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly), within the
Zones, Wards and Communities, for inclusive governance, sense of belonging, justice,
equity, peaceful co-existence and brotherly love in the State. This will ensure
that our citizens will continue to enjoy improved Democracy Dividends, provided
by the David Umahi-led Admistration and those expected from the next State
Government.
The President also eulogized His Excellency, Governor Umahi, for his Peaceful disposition and commitment to a hitch-free Transition at all levels, in Ebonyi State.
