The Governorship journey of Ebonyi Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Architect Edward Nkwegu on Thursday, recieved boost as various groups adopted him as their sole gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general election.
Speaking during a meeting with Architect Edward Nkwegu at Grand Arena, the state coordinator of Civil Society Action Group, Rev Ezeudo Peters Chukwudinma said, they have come to show their total support and solidarity to the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, the Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate, Edward Nkwegu and all other candidates of the party in the state.
He expressed the readiness of his group to canvass massive votes for the landslide victory of the Labour Party Candidates for the 2023 election in the state.
In another development, the 2023 Action Alliance (AA) Candidate for Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Chinedu Adum also on Thursday in Abakaliki, dumped his party and joined the Labour Party with over 1,000 supporters, declaring support for Edward Nkwegu and all other candidates of Laboure party in the state.
He emphasized that EDON remains the best choice for the state as Governor and promised to galvanize the needed support to ensure he emerges the governor of the state come 2023.
Also speaking, the PDP woman Leader for Abakaliki Local Government Area, Mrs Ijere Ngozika, who was among decampees from PDP assured the labour party standard bearer of her readiness to work with other stakeholders in ensuring victory for the party in the coming election.
In the same vein, the National President of the United Association of Physically Challenged Persons of Nigeria, Mr Silas Egede led over 300 of his members to adopt the Ebonyi Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Edward Nkwegu; describing him as the best candidate among other contenders for the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Similarly, the Board of trustees of Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, the apex umbrella youth organization in Izzi land have also adopted the labour party candidate, Arc. Edward Nkwegu as their sole Gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election in the state.
This was made known by the BoT Chairman, Prince Maurice Mbam on Thursday during enlarged press briefing in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
Prince Mbam explained that the decision to back the Labour Party candidate was rooted in the decision of the members to ensure that a people-centric government succeed Umahi.
According to him: “Following the meeting of the Board of Trustees of Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, have resolved that we eschew every form of political hooliganism, violence, threat to life, and condemned every form of vote buying and called on the state government to give every political parties level playing ground to exercise their franchise.
“That our Ohaukwu brothers should remember that we supported *Dr Sam Egwu as a Governor and Senate.* Hence, call our brothers from the central zone to reciprocate our support for Chief Martin Nwanchor Elechi, and remind our brothers from the South to know that Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum was the first to declare the shift of power to Ebonyi South during our retreat at TTC Igbeagu which later saw the emergence of Engr David Umahi.
He added, “We assure all and sundry that we’ll convince Izhi extraction on the consensus candidate of Arch Edward Nkwegu, before the voting day.
“Therefore, we hereby, adopted Arch (Dr) Edward Nkwegu as our consensus candidate in the 2023 Ebonyi state general election.”
The ex-president enjoined entire Ebonyians to support the Labour Party candidate on the ground of equity, competence and credibility, hence, called on sons and daughters of the clan to queue behind the former governorship candidate in the 2015 election to ensure he emerged victoriously in the 2023 election.
In his response, the Ebonyi State labour party Gubernatorial candidate for 2023 election, Architect Edward Nkwegu, commended the groups for their solidarity and the bold statement they made by endorsing him for the state number one top job assuring them that his four- point agenda will bring economic transformation to the state through industrialization, agricultural modernization and a peaceful environment with special attention to workers' welfare, Education, Health and other sectors to end poverty by creating wealth and jobs for the people.
