Leaders of Afikpo South Local Government Area under the auspices of 'Edda Leaders of thought' on Monday disassociate selves from the verbal attack directed at Governor David Umahi by the senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, Michael Ama Nnachi at a function in Lagos recently.
This was contained in a communique issue at the end a meeting held at palace of traditional ruler of Ebunwana, Ezeogo Charles Azuenya on Monday, called on Senator Nnachi to retract his insult on Gov. Umahi and apologize to him and the good people of Edda within 48 hours of the notice, for shamelessly disgracing and misrepresenting them or face appropriate sanctions according to the tradition and customs of the clan.
The communique reads in full;
"COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED BY EDDA LEADERS OF THOUGHT AT THE END OF ITS MEETING HELD AT THE PALACE OF THE TRADITIONAL RULER OF EBUNWANA EDDA, HRH EZEOGO CHARLES AZUENYA ON MONDAY, 5TH DECEMBER, 2022
"The Edda Leaders of Thought comprising the Traditional Institution, Political Class and the leadership of Edda Peoples’ Assembly, the apex socio-cultural organization that superintends the development of Edda Clan during its emergency meeting held at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Ebunwana Edda, HRH Ezeogo Charles Azuenya on Monday, 5th December, 2022, deliberated on critical issues that constitute a cog in the wheel of progress of the Ancient Kingdom taking into cognizance that Edda clan as a people are known to uphold the sanctity of human dignity, integrity and respect which the people have over the years preserved and guarded jealously. The Forum frowned at the unprovoked onslaught unleashed against the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi on the occasion of the 2022 Nzuko Edda Day Celebration, Lagos State Branch by one of its own, the Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Sen. Dr. Michael Ama Nnachi.
"The Edda Leaders of Thought lamented that the circumstances upon which the image and reputation of Governor Umahi was dragged to the mud on the said occasion was not a political gathering for campaign purposes par say as to have necessitated Sen. Ama Nnachi to have seized the opportunity to castigate an exceptional leader whose extraordinary love and passion to improve the social wellbeing of the people of Edda is exemplary and therefore took fundamental and far reaching decisions on critical issues that would engender peace and progress of the clan as follows:
"Expressed satisfaction over the pragmatic and visionary leadership of the Gov. Umahi led administration in Ebonyi State which has through his leadership ingenuity and excellent performance received several accolades and awards as the best Governor in Nigeria, stressing that Edda clan otherwise christened “Afikpo South Local Government Area”, is a major beneficiary of Gov. Umahi’s outstanding accomplishments in both human and infrastructural development and however wondered why a son of Edda land, Sen. Michael Ama Nnachi had at a public gathering castigated and attempted to rubbish the Governor’s monumental achievements particularly in Edda including describing as insignificant the Iyere Edda flyover, the longest flyover bridge east of the Niger notwithstanding the fact that this magnificent construction has eliminated incessant road accidents and loss of lives at the particular spot which had inspired the Governor to change the ugly narratives.
"Appreciated the fact that the position of the senate for Ebonyi South Senatorial District has remained in Afikpo South LGA for three consecutive times at a stretch through the magnanimity of Gov. Umahi noting that the recent zoning of the Senate to Ohaozara LGA and the post of Federal House of Representatives to Afikpo South LGA by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State in the interest of justice, equity and fair-play is a welcome development.
"Thanked immensely Gov. Umahi for being there for the Edda clan at all times and promised to remain eternally indebted to him for influencing the election of two illustrious sons of Edda namely: Prince Ugoji Amaoti and Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha at different times as Chairmen of the ruling party in the state including the recent appointment of Hon. Prince Joseph Ekumankama as Federal Minister of State for Health as well as other juicy appointments of illustrious sons and daughters of Edda extraction into positions of trust in the state.
"Described as unfortunate the rebellious character of Dr. Michael Ama Nnachi who could not have been a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without the endorsement and support of Governor Umahi in 2019.
"The Edda leaders of thought disassociated itself from the unruly behavior of Sen. Ama Nnachi which the leaders criticized as alien to the character of the average Edda man who is known to not only whole heartedly appreciate but reciprocate favour and therefore called on Senator Nnachi to retract his insult on Gov. Umahi and apologize to him and the good people of Edda within 48 hours of this notice, for shamelessly disgracing and misrepresenting them or face appropriate sanctions according to the tradition and customs of the clan".
