Ebonyi state Governor, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe has warned the youths of Ikwo against involving in any act of violence before, during and after the forthcoming general election, stressing that the peace accord in Ikwo is still in force and he is fully in support of the accord.
Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe's warning was contained in a statement he personally signed and made available to Journalist in Abakaliki, the state capital, Tuesday.
The statement reads;
"The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Barr (Chief) Eric Kelechi Igwe, PhD hereby directs all the Youths of Ikwo Local Government Area across party line to eschew violence and any act capable of giving room for chaos in Ikwo Local Government Area in the forthcoming elections and Campaigns.
"The Ikwo peace accord is still in force and I totally subscribe to it without sentiment.
"No one, especially our youths must be involved in destruction of billboards and campaign posters as such cannot guarantee victory for any Candidate or make one lose election.
"We must strive to ensure that there is no form of violence in the forthcoming elections in Ikwo environs.
"The era of rigging and thuggery has gone. Election is now transmitted electronically from the polling units and anyone who's thinking of allowing himself as a willing tool to be used to cause violence is daydreaming.
"I wish to also advise the youths to get their PVC which is being distributed currently in the respective wards and polling units and secure it in order to vote the the candidates of your choice in the forthcoming elections.
Anyone found culpable of destruction of billboards, posters and causing nuisances in Ikwo Local Government Area in the name of politics shall be sanctioned legally to logical conclusion.
"Ebonyi is a peace loving State courtesy of His Excellency, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON and we must not sabotage his effort in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the State".
