Following a fresh clash that erupted last week between Okporojo -Oso Community in Afikpo South Local Government Area and Ndukwe-Amasiri Community in Afikpo North Local Government Area, the people of the Areas have unanimously agreed to put their differences aside by embracing peace.
This they demonstrated on Sunday when the two Communities came together to sign a Peace Accord vowing to desist forthwith from acts capable of igniting crisis between the two neighbouring communities.
Those who spoke from both Communities, admitted that Amasiri and Oso are brothers who shared same matrilineal relationship as well as marriage affinity and thus have no cause to fight themselves.
They therefore, agreed to sheath their swords and to also allow the Committee Set up by Ebonyi State Government come up with lasting solutions to the land dispute that has continued to threaten the existence of the two neighbouring communities.
The Peace meeting which was facilitated by Ebonyi State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency,Engr David Nweze Umahi had in attendance the Hon Minister of Health (State) Barr. Joseph Ekumankama; the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Hon Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam,the Executive Chairman of Afikpo South Local Government Area, Hon Chima Ekumankama; a member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Commission,Chief Nkama Nkama Ude; Coordinator of Amasiri DC, Hon Baron Ogbonnia Enya and Edda North DC Coordinator, Hon. Eze Ama Okoro
Others are members of the 12man Peace Committee set up by His Excellency, Engr David Nweze Umahi to look into the matter.
Royal Fathers, Community Leaders, Youth representatives ,the clergies and opinion Leaders were all in attendance.
Speaking,the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Hon Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam and his Afikpo South LGA counterpart, Hon Chima Ekumankama thanked both Communities for embracing peace and enjoined them to sustain the spirit of reconciliation by adhering to the peace agreement.
They applauded the State Governor, His Excellency, Engr David Nweze Umahi for his quick intervention in the crisis and implored the Youths to sheath their swords and desist from making any provocative statements that could breach the peace pact
The Hon. Minister of Health (State),Barr. Joseph Ekumankama; the Traditional Ruler of Amasiri Autonomous Community, HRH Omezue Bassey Idam Onya; the traditional ruler of Oso Autonomous Community,HRH Ezeoha Ajah Ugbor; the Coordinator of Amasiri DC,Hon Baron Ogbonnia Enya; Coordinator of Edda North DC,Hon Eze Ama Okoro; Osuu S.U Oduko expressed satisfaction on the peace building processes and advised the leaders of both Communities to go back home and informed their people that peace has been restored.
In the spirit of reconciliation,both Communities ate together,sang together and danced together to welcome a new chapter in their relationship and corporate existence
The elated Hon Minister of State for Health donated the sum of N2 Million to each of the Communities; N500,000.00 to Ebubeagu Operatives and N500,000.00 to the youths.
