Odunwa who is the member representing Ikwo South constituency, emerged the speaker of the 7th Assembly shortly after the proclamation of the Assembly by the governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Other principal officers elected include, Hon.Ogba Chinedu Onah of Ohaukwu South Constituency, Deputy Speaker; Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogbonna Ikoro (Afikpo North West) – Leader; Rt. Hon. Nkemka Okoro Onuma (Afikpo South West) – Chief Whip; Rt. Hon. Joseph Ununu (Abakaliki South) – Deputy Leader; and Rt. Hon. Chukwu Arinze Lucas (Ishielu South) – Deputy Chief Whip.
In his remarks, the governor of Ebonyi state, Ogbonna Nwifuru urged the House to work with unity of purpose to drive the needed development of the State and expressed optimism that the new Speaker will deliver on the mandate given to him.
The Speaker later red a letter from Governor Francis Nwifuru seeking consideration and confirmation of 35 Commissioner nominees which was adopted as a working document of the House.
He assured that the House would treat the request urgently to enable the Governor to take off with good governance for the people.
The new speaker thanked governor Ogbonna Nwifuru and members of the House for the position given to him, assuring that the House will work in great synergy with the executives to achieve the needed development of the state.
He, however, solicited for the full cooperation of all members to enable him deliver on his mandate.
