Wife of the State Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru has flagged off the 2023 mass literacy campaign at the women development center, Abakaliki with a call on Chairmen and Chairpersons of Local Government Areas to ensure monitoring and supervision at the grassroots.
Flagging off the 2023 Mass Literacy Campaign, wife of the Governor, Mrs Nwifuru said the program is aimed at igniting spark of knowledge, empower individuals, transform lives and achieve education for all.
She appreciated the present administration in the State for the commitment showed so far to the cause of mass literacy which in turn has prepared a solid ground where education is accessible and affordable to all, stressing that the campaign was a resolute commitment towards ensuring that no one is left behind in Ebonyi project.
Mrs Nwifuru while emphasizing that the Mass Literacy program would be devoid of discrimination of any sort called on Council Chairmen, Traditional Rulers and Donor Agencies to partner the Government in prosecuting the education for all program so as to fill the gap of ignorance, enhance economic development, women empowerment and foster civic engagement.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and State Commissioner for Education, Prof Paul Nwaobashi and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Adult Education, Mrs Stella Nwagu thanked the State Governor and his wife for reactivating Adult Education in the State and assured that it would be given adequate attention and go a long way in facilitating all round development of the State.
There were goodwill messages from the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Uchenna Igwe on behalf of his ministry and Council Chairmen, Dr Boniface Nwofia for NOLGASS and Eze Sunday Oketa on behalf of Traditional Rulers where they expressed their readiness to mobilize support for the program.
The event featured presentation of books to Heads of Departments for taking-off of Adult Education across one hundred and seventy one political wards in the State by wife of the Governor.
The flag-off was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila as well as other top Government functionaries.
