The housing project approved for the displaced people of Ezza and Ezilo communities by Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has kicked off.
The Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Engr Francis Ori, disclosed this to our reporter in his office, Ochudo centenary city, Abakaliki, Tuesday.
He said that the housing project is inline with the policy trust of Governor Francis Nwifuru's re- settlement program for the internally displaced people in the state and also in ensuring available and ffordable housing for the people of the state irrespective of financial status.
Engr Ori said, "During our maiden EXCO, His Excellency the Governor gave us a matching order, directing my ministry to start a re- settlement program for the displaced people of Ezza Ezilo, that, we have taken off .
"The governor is keen in seeing that the project come to actualization. So, far we have started the project.
"We have started clearing of the site and work is progress".
Engr Ori also revealed that the Governor has made upward review of the housing project from fifty to seventy 3bedroom apartment each, for Ezza and Ezilo Communities. He equally hinted that the Governor is also prepared to resettle those displaced from the centenary city.
"With the magnanimity of the governor, he has increased the initial housing project from fifty to seventy units of 3bedroom apartment per community in Ezza Ezilo, and apart from that, Governor has also approved for building of housing project for the displaced people from the centenary city".
He noted further that the housing project is designed to be completed within the duration of six months and will be fitted with all facilities obtainable in a modern estate.
"The estate is designed to have facilities of a modern estate such as internal roads, water, light, schools, church avenue and market".
The Honourable Commissioner also said that the state Government through his ministry is already in talks with private developers and investors in building affordable housing scheme for the people of the state.
"As a ministry, we have expanded our coast to see how we can get the audience of private investigator who are ready to invest in the state. We have also had meeting with some organizations like the Federal mortgage bank, we are discussing with them. We want to go into housing scheme for senior government officials and federal civil servants in the state. We want to see if we can partner with Federal mortgage bank to go into housing estate for lectures of Federal universities, Ndufu Alike Ikwo, king David University and some other higher institution in the state. We want to make Housing affordable in the state and the governor is ready to partner with any reasonable developers to ensure that this is realizable.
"We're also in discussion on how to build a housing unit for low income earners . This arrangement is in cadres. We have for civil servants. The governor is Keen in ensuring that housing issues in the state is addressed".
He expressed joy over the warm acceptance of the people of Ezza and Ezilo to the initiative, urging them to continue to cooperate with the State in maintaining peace in the area while the project lasted.
"You can see the tears of joy as we move our equipment to the sight. what we need from them is peace and cooperation which they have assured of during our meeting with them.
"We really appreciate our Governor, this is what people have been expecting since 2008 and here our Governor is bringing it to reality" .
Commissioner Ori emphasized that Governor Nwifuru have assembled the best hands to drive the developmental agenda of this administration and in no distant time, the manifestation of the dividends of the administration will become real.
He called for the support of all Ebonyians to make Governor Nwifuru's people charter of need a reality, reiterating that his door is always open for advise, suggestions and possibly, programs that can help drive the course of the administration as Ebonyi people will certainly, smile again under the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
