The governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has lamented over the rising social vices among youths in Nigeria, especially in the state.
Nwifuru vowed to alleviate poverty and create jobs as away to reduce sufferings among the citizens of the state.
He however, revealed his preparedness to liase with the national directorate of employment,NDE, in the state to create jobs through massive enrollment of youths and women into various skill developments.
Nwifuru made this known through the state commissioner for skill and jobs creation, Mr. Elijah Oko-Udu during a visit at the NDE office located at the old federal secretariat at Nnorom street, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital.
According to him: "the government will partner NDE to alleviate poverty through skill development and job creation.His Excellency has determined to bridge the gap of unemployment as well as making the young Ebonyians a potential resources.
"The high rate of social vices is as a result of lack of engagement of the youths in a meaningful skill, but if someone is engaged maybe in mechanic work, it's difficult to see the people to be engaged in cultism and stealing.
The governor further noted that his administration will do all within it's powers to ensure that the People's charter of needs is realized by providing an enabling environment for the youths and women, especially those in the rural areas to excel.
Earlier in a remark, the state coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Pastor Ebere Anaba applauded the governor for the visit, and vowed to cooperate with the state government, to ensure that poverty, unemployment is reduced to the lowest level.
