The wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru has flagged off the distribution of relief materials to victims affected by the 2022 flood.
Mrs Nwifuru during the event held at Old Government House, Abakaliki on Tuesday said that the relief materials was distributed to salvage the effects of the disaster faced by the victims
She said "We are aware that this menace called floods have brought immense challenges and hardships to many families and communities, disrupting lives and properties".
The First Lady sympathized with those who have been affected by the floods commending their resilience in the face of adversity.
Mrs Nwifuru reassured the victims that the state government will continue to support them to rebuild their lives and communities.
In his remark, Mr Mustapha Habib Ahmed, Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that the distribution was rolled out to the victims to mitigate the economic harsh.
Ahmed, who was represented by the Zonal Coordinator, South-East, Mrs Ngozi Echiefu, harped on the need to adhere to all safety y measures to prevent further occurrence.
"People should avoid disposing wastes in drainage, make sure switch off electrical appliances when not in use to avoid further disasters," Ahmed said.
Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Ann Aligwe, said that the state governor, Mr Francis Nwifuru, approved the distribution of the relief material to help disaster victims curb current economic situation in the country.
Aligwe noted that the state government partnered with the Federal to ensure the relief materials were provided .
"Today we are distributing these materials to victims of 2022 flood and fire disasters to alivieate their plights.
"We have ten phases of the relief distribution and this will be done to 13 local government areas of the state," Aligwe said.
Materials distributed include rice, beans, garri, insecticide treated nets, blankets and mats.
