Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis
Nwifuru has commended the Nation's judiciary for rising in defense of democracy and remaining the last hope of common man.
The Governor gave the commendation on Wednesday, while briefing journalists in his office, shortly after the Governoship petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, delivered judgement in his favor.
He described his victory at the Tribunal as victory to constitutional democracy and enjoined the petitioners, professor Ben Odoh of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA and Mr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii of the people's Democratic party PDP, to bring their wealth of experience and join hands with him to develop the state.
"I had approached my dear brothers who contested with me not to challenge the decision of the people after they spoke very loudly in the March 18 election which they turned down. Today the Tribunal has dismissed all the grounds they raised"
"I joined APC on the 9th of November, 2020 and PDP took me to court, Justice Ekwo gave judgement in their favor and they celebrated it. Based on the provisions of the law we appealed the judgement and sought stay of execution which the court didn't grant until the case was withdrawn''
"The electoral act also makes it clear that once you contest primaries in a political party and the party sends your name to INEC, and you are sponsored by that party you automatically become a member of that party."
The Governor applauded Ebonyi people for their steadfast support and assured he will continue to work to develop the state.
The tribunal dismissed the petition against Nwifuru’s victory in the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial election by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Ifeanyichukwu Odii.
The tribunal also dismissed the petition brought by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Prof Bernard Odoh, ruling that both lacked merit.
“I still urge them to bring the ideas in their manifestos for us to develop and make the state prosperous,” he said.
