In furtherance to the directive of the trailblazer cum amiable wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Her Excellency Chief Mrs Uzomaka Mary-Maudline Nwifuru; that a free antinental and free delivery would be given to pregnant women across 171 wards in the state, the team of Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme on 4th March, 2024, arrived Ikwo LGA for the exercise.
Welcoming the team, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Barr Sunday Nwankwo and his amiable wife, Mrs. Uzomaka Nwankwo thanked the Governor's wife and EBSHIA for implementing Governor Francis Nwifuru peoples charter of needs mantra in health sector. They promised to partner with the team to ensure that pregnant women in all vilages in Ikwo LGA enroll into the scheme.
The wife of the council boss who was represented by Hon. Mrs Mary Orogwu, thanked the wife of the governor, and the Executive Secretary of EBSHIA, Dr. Divine Igwe for deeming it fit to come to Ikwo, and for their unbais treatment of the women in issuance of the form and card respectively.
In his remarks, EBSHIA Executive Secretary Dr. Divine Igwe, expressed his unalloyed gratitude,l to the wife of the governor for her initiative geared towards ending child mortality rate and succour to displaced persons and the destitute in Ebonyi State. He also lauded Ikwo council boss, Barr. Sunday Nwankwo for his hospitality, good projects and bond of unity prevailing in the council as seen in the women. Dr. Igwe, further unveiled the essence of the agency's visit to the council. He explained that most women during pregnancy, go through a lot of emotional mental and physical stress as a result of either
unavailability of finance or ignorance on need to go for antinental care. He noted that it was to end such stress that prompted the initiative of Her Excellency to help liberate some indigent pregnant women in such condition. He equally added that the agency's form when carefully filled, gaurantees one an antinental card to access any primary health care center or hospital in the state.
The enrollment exercise was kicked off with a welcome song led by the women in honour of the wife of the governor, Chief Mrs Uzomaka Mary-Maudline Nwifuru and Dr. Divine Igwe.
Members in the EBSHIA team at the visit include: Dr. Divine Igwe - Executive Secretary, EBSHIA. Mrs. Njoku Nnennaya Nkechinyere - HOD, ICT/Standard and Quality Assurance Manager, EBSHIA. Mrs. Mbam Martha Chinwe - Focal Person, Formal Sector, EBSHIA. Mr. Ogodo Uchenna Emmanuel - HOD, Administration and Supplies, EBSHIA, and some crews of the agency.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the women, Mrs. Uche Peace Chigozie from Enyim Agalagu, Alike, thanked the wife of the governor, the council boss and his wife, EBSHIA team among others for their sensitivity towards the women of Ikwo Noyo clan. An appreciative song titled " Ezinne mara obi umuya - meaning" A good mother that knows the heart of her children" was sang for her excellency and the council chairperson.
